Okay so who else's EGR light is on?

Mine is on and I cant figure out for the life of me how to get it to turn off. In my factory manual it says it turns on every 25,000 miles for a service. Well obvsouly I am not going to take it in and have a stealership work on it. Because I dont have $$$ for them and I like to do things my self.

So...

Who knows how to get this thing to turn off???

Thanks,

Electrical tape.......or an ice pick:D .......wire cutters........service the darn thing yourself:hillbilly: .......unplug sensors............remove EGR................etc.

Good luck with it,
Dan

EGR is exhaust gas recirculation. basically it brings some of the exhaust back into the intake to be re-burned in the combustion process. it really doesnt do anything but dirty up your rig and in my state emissions dont check for it anyway. if you choose to remove it you will have a couple holes to plug.

Howdy! The actual EGR has no electrical connections. The light on the dash is activated by the "secondary odometer" that is on the firewall. It is the goofy looking little right angle box that the speedo cable goes thru. Disabling the dash light has no effect on the performance of the engine. John

hey you dirty old rockhound:flipoff2: why you quoting me, i didnt say anything about electrical connections;)
Howdy! Hey, man, you were the last post on the thread when I read it, and I was too lazy to scroll down and quote KliersLC, the second post, who said "

Besides, here in Chandler, they DO check for my EGR when they do the under the hood visual. It usually requires a supervisor type to sign me off, as my V8 doesn't show up on the Landcuiser roster until about 1998. It's always good for giggles when the smog tech looks at me and asks "Are you sure it's a V8?" I have seriously tried to convince them that it is a pair of parallel 22R's, but I think the Chevy Orange is too much of a givaway!! John (who spent the day cutting Marble blocks with a handsaw)

The EGR light has no bearing on the operation of the actual EGR.

Disabling your EGR is somewhat controversial. The original intent of the EGR was to re-burn any unburnt gasses in the exhaust. It also reduces combustion temps lowering NO2 emissions and incidents of detonation. It's the last thing that's most important if you don't care about smog testing.

You can run higher spark advance, lower octane and more compression if you have a working EGR.

On a stock tuned 2F it probably doesn't do a whole lot unless you have enough carbon build up in your combustion chambers to cause high compression and spark knock. Detonation/spark knock causes holes in pistons, broken rings and other bad stuff. If you have spark knock issues - run an EGR.

I don't have one that works on either my 80 or my 55.
