How was your trip?

How was your trip?

Long, tiring, at times frustrating, but good.

Bought a small tent trailer and brought it home, details here: eatSleepWoof's Rockwood 1640ESP

Truck drove well. There's a new noise that I think is coming from the engine bay. Sort of like "trrrrrrrr," similar to a bearing going bad. Audible at 100+ kph.

Thursday afternoon the LX is going to a local Indy for a full inspection of all work done to it.

Friday morning I'm taking it (an hour away) to another indy, that's ran by the same Lexus Dealership's former master mechanic. They had taken the LX to him for a second opinion, so he's familiar with the problems that were present. I spoke with him on the phone yesterday, and it sounds like he does know and understand AHC. He told me that there's more to levelling the vehicle than just adjusting the position of the height sensors (either physically or via Techstream); there's a special levelling procedure that needs to be done, and can only be done 1) on a perfectly level surface and 2) via the dealer's Techstream setup, not the level of Techstream access that he has, or most of us here have (I've got a cable on the way, too). The dealer will drop off their laptop w/ Techstream software on Thursday evening, he will do the proper procedure on Friday, and I have fingers crossed that'll be the end of it.

I still think the truck needs an alignment. After all, height has changed, and I've no idea by how much. Best to play it safe.

That's the AHC calibration. It requires zeroing the G and Yaw sensors. Most people ignore it. I was stymied by the 'perfectly level surface' requirement, my driveway isn't, and parking lots are all sloped for drainage . . .

I ended up taking advantage of an unlevel surface (high cambered) to help with the AHC Offset Utility but in the end it didn't matter.

Definitely interested in the 'super secret' Techstream functions . . . There is certainly 'locked' (bad key) vs 'unlocked' (licensed) view/update/delete access, but a second level of licensed access is new information.

this is the Height Offset Utility. No need for a special techstream edition.

Thanks, guys.

I believe this tech has some sort of Techstream access (likely the same that most of us do), but needs further access for this procedure. What exactly "this procedure" is, is as of yet not known. Perhaps that AHC calibration, perhaps something else. In any case, I will let the tech do his thing and hopefully level the LX out. If that fails, I will have to go into the above Height Offset Utility (when my cable arrives in a few weeks) and see what I can fix myself.

I’ll be really interested to learn what he does! I tried the height offset as I am interesting in keeping a stock ride height, and it was some confusing voodoo

Yesterday I took the LX in to a local indy for an inspection. A quick half-hour later they said everything is fine. Not nearly as thorough as I would have preferred, but it's better than nothing.

This morning I drove 1:15h to another shop - the same guy that used to be Lexus' master tech, and whom they took the LX to. Turns out he had spent around 10 hours working on my LX to fix the dealer's mess, and had personally bled the AHC system, using a total of 8 (!!!) litres to do it. He confirmed what most of us had suspected from the get-go, but what the dealer refused to acknowledge: they sucked air into the system during the first bleed/flush. He also told me that the "defective pump" the dealer had supposedly received from Lexus was not a defective pump, but rather that those idiots did not prime it, and burned the pump out. Another detail they failed to mention to me, and the cause of two weeks without the LX.

He anticipated being able to level the LX within about 2hrs, gave me a courtesy car, and I drove to a nearby parking lot to wait it out. After 2.5hrs his secretary called me and said the LX was "very far off" from how it should be, that he don't know how long this may end up taking, and that I should head home. He wants to do this right, and it didn't make sense for me to keep hanging around.

So that's that. Potentially another beautiful weekend without my LX.

This is bananas.
All that needs to happen is to zero out the height adjusts using the height offset utility, then physically move the sensors to get the 4 corners within .5" of each other (I'm comfortable loosening all 4 sensor nuts and then performing this step with the rig running.), then use Height offset utility to level out. PM me if you want me to explain all that over the phone to the guy.

Unless something is physically wrong (damaged sensor, accumulator?), there shouldn't be anything else to be done.

I suspect that a height sensor is also broken. Remember the apes were on the loose trying any and every thing....

man... i am so sorry

Got it back late yesterday. Haven't measured it myself, but the tech said the front is perfectly level and the rear corners are within 3/8" to 1/2".

He also contacted the dealership and asked them to pass on some questions to Lexus Technical Assistance, as it was a lot more difficult to level this LX than it should have been, and he feels something is off.

Would the LX still raise up/down with a broken height sensor? I would imagine the corner with the broken sensor would not behave as expected.

OH and I still have no idea how the LX sits now, vs how it sat originally. Probably lost the height gains from AHC lift, and at this point I'm terrified of touching it again.

It's not that complicated, go ahead and manual adjust the corner sensors how you want. If you don't like it you can put them back. Just mark where They are at.

I hear you, I've done the AHC lift before and it was trivial, but given what I've gone through over the last ~5 weeks, I'm not touching it any time soon.

I may be in the minority here but if you’re back to stock height I would leave it be. Let H do it’s job, enjoy your ride!

Absolutely agree. I only adjusted until my tires cleared in N. I don't have full turn in L. Only very rarely an issue if I'm in a clearance limited parking garage.

Had a lot of fun today.

Found this little spot to play. First time was smooth as silk, no-drama-llama. Second time (in video) I went a little bit off the line and had some wheel spin, but still went along nicely.
