I am looking for an early FJ40 dash panel that I can section & narrow for my buggy. I have one, but its just too nice for me to cut up and its keeping me from moving forward on the project. Open to various conditions, color does not matter. If you have something you are willing to box up and ship, reach out or PM me some photos.

Thanks,
Evan

I have been toying with cutting up the 1964 FJ45 cowl that I have listed on here just to make it easier to store the pieces. My dash looks as nice as yours though.

I hate cutting up good parts :bang: I purchased this dash sheet metal from Rob Tygart as-is with the idea of it going on a wall or into my '77 that has a flat panel aluminum dash covering an absolutely butchered original dash panel....

Fishing to see if there is something more butchered out there so I don't have to sacrifice a nice one.

I’m not sure how early you want but I have one from a 72.

That may be one of only a very few unmolested ribbed dash panels in existence. If you cut that your mud juju might end up in the 🚽.

Thanks. I believe ‘67 was the last year of the 3 rib dash that i am looking for. Photos that I posted above show what I’m after.

Mark has one that looks even nicer its just still attached to the cowl. This one has a pretty good twist in it from when it was removed, and the high/low lever area has seen some “force”, but otherwise is original with no extra holes.

I have a cruiser conscious, hence my post looking for one worthy of sacrifice 😇

That’s what gets me about mine. Not only is it much better than the one in my’64, it is the exact same paint that my truck started out as. Part of me thinks that I should put it to the side and tag it so that it goes down the road to the next caretaker of the truck when I’m gone.

Have you looked at FB marketplace? There’s several FJ40 bodies in various conditions/locations and the owner just might cut a cowl off? Never hurts to ask.

Yes have had an eye out. I chased one of these that was removed from the truck locally on FB for a couple months and the lister never communicated back. I have not asked anyone to cut the dash off a tub yet. I'm not desperate, just came to the realization that I lean too far to the purist side of the spectrum to cut this one I have up and its holding me back. I'm inclined to buy a bead roller and try to make my own out of aluminum using the one I have as a scaled template, but I'm more comfortable working with steel.

I'd be lying if I claimed my idea was original, this is my inspiration. I'd like to keep some of the original holes though, ignition switch, turn signals, and light switch at minimum, along with the cluster bezel and glove compartment opening/door.

I was going to suggest another fabrication option, but I see the aesthetic you’re after, and I agree that it would be cool.

So now I’m going to suggest something else. Take a look at what @Land Cruiser Junky did with a 1975 dash, adding the three ribs to create the FJ25 feel.

Note: you’ll have to look for an older pic, as he moved on from that iteration before he put the truck up for sale.

You can get creative with this one if you can’t find the early version you’re looking for.

Man I remember that orange buggy from a few years ago...i still dig it..what i have may be perfect..now I'm thinking I'll use it in my buggy build if you dont😅
Needs work around instruments, lotsa holes but solid..ready for a 6? inch narrow..purists may want to look away now..

I warned ya..pm if interested. I can remove dash panel and cut in half to ship. Can measure stereo hole width if need be.
Keep those dreams alive my friends...

I actually didn't go for the early FJ25 look, but just went with a completely different looking 40 dash. I never liked the '75 layout. I made 3 aluminum panels to cover up the original hole and 2 small plates to adapt the FJ25 windshield frame. And Mark, I've still got it in the garage and drive it every week. After 46 years l decided l wasn't ready to let it go.
