I need information / pictures of how door surround pieces were welded to B pillar? measurement of Tab plate / bracket and how many tabs etc? I found this pic posted by @Cruiser_Nerd but not sure how many tabs each side and is that tab bracket "C" or "L" plate? -

Any updates on finding or fabricating the bows for a fj25/early 40 in the type B style? I've literally been searching for years for my 63? Any help is appreciated.

Your lucky if you find bows. Fabricating them yourself or having someone make them is the only way right now. Reel Steel Cruiser parts FJ40 bows i think could be modified. I think they are the closest thing to early bows that you can buy.

Thanks, so it sounds like there still isn't a 25/early 40 fabricator out there for the FST, bummer. Trying to get as close to OEM as possible so I'll wait on modifying a later 40 set.

Opening up this thread again,
Can anyone with A type bows measure some dimensions?
Got some from @tahoe40/45 without a top, but would like from someone with a factory top installed.
B bow to center rear bow front to back
B bow to rear bow front to back
Height of rear bow from top of tailgate to top of bow.
trying to figure out the top I have, Thanks, John

I’m guessing no one on Mud has a top A style?
Has anyone seen one in a museum that I can contact?
Thanks, John Pardi

No bows here

Thanks for asking John, no answer yet on those measurements.

Were you looking for style bows that folded like Mike Fox use to have? Can't help with those. As I remember the letter used changed to designate the style early on. Never researched all the letters used for different styles since US basically only got one style. Exception being a few folding bows very early in the FJ25. Didn't thing you were using that style?

I’m not using A type bows, actually C type. I’m trying to figure out if this good condition top I have fits an A type folding bow set up.

@pardion I dug out my parts book and blew off the dust to see what A, B and C type bows are. I looked to see if the main canvas section uses the same part number. A is different than B, C. The B pillar is also different than B, C. Because the rear bow is not fixed not sure how you could get an accurate measurement without an OEM top is good condition.

Do know the history of the top you have? Unfortunately I wasn't able to get the top off the early FJ40 in Southern California. I had arranged to borrow Phil's top and figure between the two could have reproduced some accurate tops. The early top ended going to Oregon didn't end well for anyone. Is there a source for replace canvas now? Still have factory doors and bows for one cruiser. Top has always been the missing piece.

John @pardion that's probably your best bet. I know Nathan now lives closer to you. He has two of my FJ25s. Where there are I'm not sure. Not even sure if still has the white one. Know he had bows and top made for it. If I knew of a decent priced top for the early soft bows I would be tempted to throw the soft top tub I bought from Georg years ago on a 62 FJ40 I bought for parts. It's a shame that FST 40 got parted out. There is only some drilled holes needed to be filled and no rust.

Hi John, and John.
If I understand it looks like you may have an A top sitting on C bows. The closest thing I could remember was when Mike and I tried Phils top on Mike's A type bows. The pics show that for the bows to work correctly the top would have to be taller in the back, raking slightly forward which would increase the elevation of the rear and center diagonal bows. So instead of the three c type bows being the same height the A type would be three different heights stepping down from back to front (or at least just higher in the back. The excess material at the rear of your top suggests (at least to me) that it may be an A type. Also the interior center flaps of the A type wouldn't line up with C type bows.

Again, here's the C top on A bows:
