Hi guys
Im normally lurking on the 70 , s section but i have a question , i was wondering if anybody took into account the different thickness gaskets between a normal diff verse a e locker gasket .
The elocker one being about 20 thou and the normal one about 8 thou , Ive searched and found many dont even use the gasket when they fit e lockers to there trucks.
I found some threads about broken side gears and wondered if the alignment between the axels and the 3rd has anything to do with it .
Example the 3rd not sitting in the right depth.
Has anybody ever measured the machined faces ? the diff housings may be different between the two.
A total of 40 thou over a axels lenth is enough to cause issues , 10 or 15 thou is ok max.

20 - 8 = 12 thousandths. What do you mean by 40 thou?

I really don't think the gasket thickness is an issue. I've always used gaskets when installing a diff, e-lockers or not. There should easily be that much tolerance in the system to absorb the difference, IMO.

Sorry in Aus we are more metric , 40 thou = 1 mm 20 thou = .5 mm
This thread is more if anyone had acctually checked the differences
between the two , and it seems that most just bung em in.
