There was also Dieselbigot's busted 3FE motor mount.
And CruiserDrew's door handle.

Alvaro

Yep-Not only a busted door handle, but a big ass scratch in the paint on my front diff hat!

Here is a pic of where Mike striped his driveshaft, all the guys that drove were amazing. It is the most difficult trail I have ever seen a wagon go thru.

Wow, you guys took a lickin' and kept on tickin'.

I was camping up there and kept waiting for you to emerge from the end of the trail. We drove out to the Bald Hill fire lookout, but that was all. I spent most of the time hanging off a rope dangling from rocks:D

dude, the sway bars were completely removed before the truck touched the trail. they were used for the 300 mile drive to and back...

Ahhh...didn't know you had quick dis on the panhard also... Thats what is shown in the pic.

Hey Alvaro, nice work on La Cabra, was that why you were eyeing the Birf on my workbench, you knew you'd need one? :D Sorry I missed the trip, it sounds like an amazing trail and a great group, potatoes al dente are my favorite!

Holy Moly!!! I was thinking of taking my 80 on this trail, but now I'm not so sure!! A little body damage doesn't worry me, but all the trail fixes sure do!!!!

That was one trail I regretted not being able to do. I have no plans to wheel the 80 through it either.

Thanks for posting the pictures. Looking forward to the entire report.

As far as the steering box, is it time to add hydro assist to try an relieve some of the stress on the sector shaft?

Jack

that's serious stuff there. I want more pics.

now, on another note.....i don't seem to notice any lower axle bracketing there?....Whats up with that? 3-link?

We're looking at some good quality trail damage.....

Great pics.

Glad you all had fun.

I want to do that trail immediately.

Bummer about the carnage, but good job as a group getting through.

It seems that many agree this is one of the top trails in California.

Yeah it really is, one of the top 5 IMO; a nice combo of rocks tree squeezes, granite, meadows, lakes, and beautiful wilderness views.

We ran it about 3 weeks ago; no carnage even from the other trucks with 33’s, longer wheelbases, and open fronts. ~ 6 hrs per day of wheelin’, Most of the trail is very slow speed; rocks everywhere & trees squeezes like I’ve never seen. Think we passed through 8 different rock gardens including the tough Thompson Hill. Middle section is not difficult just bumpy and slow, the other two days where rougher but very fun.

Sounds like a great trip! This trail is on my list to do in a couple years when my wagon is ready. It seems that many agree this is one of the top trails in California. Nice to here Patches did well too Brett!

Dylan

Patches perfomed beyond my expectations...This is a very tight trail, especially for a tall, long SOA wagon and I think coming away with no body damage at all is nearly impossible.

Besides my busted motor mount and alot of new dents, the only other lost was my original radio mast antena and a 2M antena coax cable...This is the most fun I've had denting up a new rig for sure:D

Here's some before shots...

Alvaro, can feel your pain on the sector shaft. Just amazed you guys don't carry a spare box. After breaking mine, I have always carried a spare 80 steering box.

I wonder if this is related to 2 years ago at Moab when you had your steering off-center for no reason. We replaced the drag link in camp. Am I remembering right?

When mine broke I was not even on the trail. Just started and dropped off the first obstacle and it broke clean and easy. I am impressed you guys got it fixed. We tried welding mine but no luck. Did you actually take the box apart to weld the shaft and what did you use for pins?

I am starting to think the hydro assist on these big trucks will help. Makes the box not do all the work. I also think that for hardcore wheelers it might be worth it to take the pitman arm off and inspect the shaft, but not sure if one will see the crack. Mine broke about 2mm outside of the box.
