Hi Guys

Things did not work out as planned. Many delays, a 3 month trip to the States, litigation work and now in the process of moving from the bush back to the coast... long story...

My planning is now to ship Dagha Boy towards the end of March next year. Probably not to Houston but directly to Portland, Oregon.

The offer still stands. As soon as I know for sure when I will ship, I can buy the tyres and stick them in the container. Our currency remains volatile and predictions are that it will crash against the USD again toward the end of the year. Bad for me but good for you.

Not the best picture, but here is my Dunlop dr1 spare

Happy to pay a deposit right now if it helps. Let me know how.

I will buy five 15" tires for sure.

And if you can find five new 16" splits I'll buy five of those and five of the 16" tires as well.

Sincere thanks for doing this.

Hi all,

Why would you buy these old-school tires for your stock 40 series?? There are so many modern radial-construction tires out there that are superior choices.

Have any of you ever owned and drove on a regular basis a bias ply tire? I have been using bias-ply Super Swamper TSL tires on my FJ40 for the last six years or so. Tough tire, looks macho, great traction off-road. These tires will flat spot if the truck is not driven on a regular basis (every 2 - 3 days.) What that means is until the tire carcass warms up a bit (so it can flex freely) you are driving on doughnuts that are not completely round.

Then there is the tread pattern on these old-school Dunlops. Not very impressive my today's standards!

Just my U.S. $00.02

Regards,

Alan

Alan , you are totally correct, the 16" split rims with 10 ply bias tires that are on there now drive very hard and rough also, and can be even dangerous.

It's really only just for the unique old fashioned standard "look"

Some things are just not comfy, it even seems that fake boobs and butts are also not nice to touch and sit on, but they got the looks.

I'm in for five tires. but since we are still a good while out before they can be brought in, I want the 7.50 16's but will make a final decision on size closer to order time.
BTY I have driven many miles on bias ply tires on my first '71 40 (original Armstrong Norsemans and the stock Dunlops it came with new,) Personally I don't hot foot it or expect hi performance needs. The mileage life will be shorter but it will cruise and climb and look vintage good. Most important I can have a tall skinny tire without suspension lift!!!
Why not bring them in at the port of Miami Or Houston?

By that reasoning could say the same thing about the FJ40 itself. Basic design of the FJ40 was based off a vehicle from the fifties and closer to that then a modern 4X4. It's all about being original not what's the best. Why not just crush everything old and just have everything new since it's better? If your going for a true restoration you want original. Those that mod and wheel they cruiser makes to buy a modern wheel. I have enough FJ40s to do both.:meh:

IOW, it's nice to have options. One of the perks of MVS.
