hello I was wondering if there is a kit around to turn a 79 2003 landcruiser ute into a dual cab? or is it cheaper to buy one already done? I do have a 75 as well but would preffer to turn the 79 into a dual cab. thank you.

It really depends where you are and if there is someone who can supply the kit and/or install it.
Generally its going to be much cheaper to buy one already done, but most of them are fairly well worn as they were originally built for the mining companies

toyota sold all the parts to make a 4 door pickup back in 1990 ...

I would love to see the faces at the local dealer when you ask them to order you in one of these:D

yep, they would probably say "go smoke a doobie" and roll their eyes.

What does the 4 dr pick up look like? The only pics I could find were what looked like cut down troopies.

picture a 77/78 with a really raised roof and chopped behind the rear doors with a 79 rear cab wall welded on and you get the idea ... then add a short box.

It should have been thought out a bit more but I don't really have a say in the matter. Took the cheapest route as far as what I can see. I still want one....
Should have looked like this but even this one the rear door could have been made a bit better....

The only image I can conjure up is a cut down troopy, thats how they get the high roof surely.

actually the roof is fiberglass ...
the rear is steel and the doors are 77/78 doors

Yes I just compared the roof ,the troopy roof is lower.

I wonder why the australian mining companies had their own made here rather than buy the kits from japan?

when i priced out the "kit" it was north of $6000, i don't remember the numbers any longer but i was tempted back in the day ...\maybe they didn't know about it or maybe toyota wouldn't release it to them.

just like the 79 series with removable top and drop down windshield ... Toyota won't sell it to the mines and yet it would be perfect for that application.

i have given up trying to understand the modern Toyota thinking processes.
