So, spent a bunch of time over in Thailand and Borneo and really started liking those 70 series. Even visited the dealership and looked at a beautiful new turbo diesel Hilux. WOW.

So, now I am starting to see more 86' and 87' rigs show up on the US shore.

My question is how can I get my hands on one?

I would prefer a truck, but I also like the removable top PZJ70 rigs.

I have lots of questions, so if you can point me in a direction, or give me contacts and advice, I would appreciate it.

I have modified several vehicles, so I even was thinking about getting a short body 70 and adding a few inches (feet) to the frame and slapping a truck bed on it. (I happen to have two 79' truck beds in my shop via Canada).

Here is a pic of my little girl at the dealership with a Hilux

Thanks for any advice.

There are two 70 Series currently on Ebay and several in the classified section of MUD.
Good luck ......

What Yeti Said... I got mine from him and he is a stand up guy and can find what you want...

My sister lives in Singapore, so we traveled there for about a month. What an awesome experience. In Borneo, I saw more LC's than I knew existed. You could not count to 60 before seeing another one on the road.

I will post up some more pictures when I get home, as it was an awesome experience.

Any particular reason for this deep desire for a LHD? Have you driven a RHD vehicle on roads designed for LHD? It's not a big issue at all, even with a manual. You certainly have way more and better options with a RHD, better bang for your buck too.

Wouldn't it be easier to just import a 75 Series Ute?

Hey there wongtsenhin! We talked when I was over there, and even bought one of your books. I was on the opposite side of the island, so missed you when we went to the tip of Borneo.

You will be amazed that I did see one 70 series in Singapore! Several Hilux units too. It was right next to a Lambo and Ferrari and guess one that I took a picture of!

You are correct about Thailand, too. Hilux was the king of the road. Borneo, (your stomping grounds) was the LC capital of the world as far as I am concerned. Let's see, Fj45 wrecker trucks, pre or post war (looked like wartime rigs) Toyota hauler trucks, tricked out 70 series rigs, amazing sights! We stayed in KK, and downtown market was Prado heaven.

Cheers,

As for right hand drive. I am a creature of habit, and I have never said that I was that bright.

Yes, have driven them, and yes after being around them for a month, I still would open the wrong door and start jumping in.

Cheers,

I'm really curious to see the 70 series photo in Singapore. Hilux is in their selling line so not really surprised me.

I will try to dig it up. It looked like it was government workers IIRC.

Beautiful rig.

Thanks ......
Insisting on a LHD 70 Series, while possible, GREATLY reduces your options. Good luck with your search. :)

Found some of my pics of the trip. Will look for the other pics at home later.

Here is your tip of the day .....
If you walk up to the wrong side ( not that I ever have ) you simply squat down as if you are looking at something important, hesitate for a moment and then walk around to the correct side. No one will be the wiser. :D

Except for me.

Only because I have done that exact same thing. Again today in fact......:flipoff2:

CDAN! I don't believe it. You are perfect in my mind! Did you get my bearing back and apologies in the mail?
