Well I don't think this is going to buff out! 17 yo was backing through a chainlink fence gate at the school while turning in a rainstorm and not paying attention (and probably going a bit too fast in reverse). Amazingly the door works, locks, window rolls, etc. Also the fenderflare wasn't damaged but I pulled it before this photo was made (I had painted under the fender flare with POR15 before installing the flares).

I've looked online and it looks like there's plenty of availability for these two parts. Not sure if this door changed in the Deluxe models (non-SR5) from 1984 to 1989? I also am not sure what truck years would work? I posted a photo of the door interior.

We only have liability on this vehicle so it's going to be a drive it until we can fix it situation for him.

I am almost 100% certain that any door from '84-88 (pickup) or '89 (4Runner) will fit. But, you will need to make sure to get a door for non-vent windows. The other difference will be that the higher trim level trucks (SR5) have a larger panel on the door, there will be another row of holes along the bottom of the flat part, just before the fold where it bends outward.

I am in the process of swapping doors EXACTLY like yours onto my '87, they were tan and had the shorter brown door panels, no vents. I had to drill another set of holes along the bottom, not a big deal for me. But if you get an SR5 door it will have those extra holes in it.

I have my old doors sitting here, I would give them to you but they are SR5 doors, with vent windows. Plus, they are red. No rust though!

Thanks. I was aware that the SR5 model (4Runners anyway) had the larger panels. I just wasn't sure if the non-SR5 doors went to the larger panels at some point between 86 and 89. Also I had no idea what the trim differences were for the truck doors.

Local yard had two 1988 pickups so I went and looked at them. Neither was in good enough shape but both had vinyl trim that went all the way to the bottom of the door. One was an SR5 so I would expect that but the other one wasn't. I may have to stay in the 84 to 86 range?

Forgot to mention, the doors I'm swapping on came from an '84.

Did the doors come off an 84 pickup or 4Runner? These doors aren't so easy to find in decent shape. I really only need the shell as everything else works fine but still.

I wanted to bump this thread back to the top as I'm having difficulty finding one of these doors. It seems that most of the salvage places that I'm contacting don't stock anything older than about 1990. I assume that I can find the fender and fender skirt but have been more worried about the door. Of course I need all three parts.

If anyone has any suggested contacts then please let me have them and I will follow up. I can also make it worth someone's time and effort if that helps. Thanks.

Wardamneagle,

have you tried LKQ online?
We have an LKQ here locally that is a pick in pull. But one feature I do like is that they have some hubs around that are much bigger and can find what you want if one of the pick and pulls dont have it.

for example, i think there is a LKQ hub in savannah GA. they could probably find the part in one of their junk yards across the nation, and then they can have it shipped to the LKQ closest to you. and you can go pick it up.

I dont know if you are near any of these facilities but i thought i would mention it.
Good luck

Just did a quick inventory search (86 4runner) saw a couple on there without vent windows like you need. but dont know where they are. they just have the location number listed. not an actual place

Thanks Bryan. I wasn't aware of the company but will check it out.

I completely forgot about this thread.

FWIW: http://car-part.com/

Someday we'll talk about how I managed to buy my Dad 2 pairs of front bumper's for his '80 Courier within just 1 year thanks to a wooden fencepost that liked to attack the truck repeatedly while I backed out.

;) He's a kid, remember, you were there once also, and there are genetics at work.

*How much yardwork is he paying with? ;p

Well I started another thread but I think this one is better to resurrect. Finally found a replacement door and fender. The door was an absolute bitch to find as it's non-vent, small mirror, manual windows, half panel interior door. Anyway, California Mini Truck had one and a good fender.

As I just mentioned in the other thread, I am probably going to go all the way and have the color changed. It won't cost much more and if we're going to change then now's the time.

it should be ok. mine is only bad because the po put the top on the bed and pushed it up to the truck cab and smashed the gasket. so as long as you make a point to lay it on top of the gasket it should be okay.

then follow the torque procedure in the manual to ensure its seated properly.

definitely post pics of it topless though.....
