Door Ajar Light, Dome Light Won't Go Off

Mine has this problem too (kinda).

My door isn't pushing my switch in enough to fully open the switch. My plan is to glue a few washers to build up that small area of the door where the switch hits. Hopefully that will cure it, since the switch opens fully when I hand-press it in.
I've been using a small piece of double sided tape for the past year. I'm so ashamed...

LOL. Yesterday I cut a "U" shape out of a plastic bottle and spaced the switch body out from the B pillar slightly. I made a handful so I can add as needed...assuming this is my problem.

Got a part number for that?

Be aware that Toyota switches the GROUND side of the circuit, whereas, MOST domestic vehicles switch the HOT side of the circuit.

Toyota:
HOT.....LOAD.......SWITCH.........GROUND

Domestic:
HOT.......SWITCH.......LOAD......GROUND

If the light is staying ON with the switch disconnected, the wire between the switch and the light is grounding itself SOMEWHERE.

Could also be the light body itself with that switch. Maybe the fixture itself is having an issue.
The light is staying on AND the door ajar light is on on the dash. I'm not sure if that information is helpful to you as this is COMPLETELY over my head at this point haha! Thank you for your help.

It may also be your rear hatch. The rear hatch switch mechanism may activate the door ajar light. But the fact that your FRONT dome light is on, I would focus on that.

Drop out your dome light and mess with the wires there to see if there is a ground or a short or a bad switch. I don't recall if the wires for that go down the B pillar on the DS, then up into the DS kick panel and under the dash.

Look up the EWD in the FSM and see if you can figure out the route. I'm not an electron chaser either, but I can muddle my through a problem.

It's definitely not the hatch or the read doors as they turn the middle dome light on an off when you close and open them properly. I'll do some research in the FSM and see what i can find. Ill def look at the front dome light and drop that since it's easy. thanks guys.

Speaking of replacement switches, I have two busted ones. Anyone got a part number?

You stated that if the light is staying on with the switch disconnected the wire between the switch in the light is grounding itself somewhere.

I have a vehicle that I am trying to get figured out for a customer. The wire at each switch has been cut. The door ajar light stays on. Would that be normal?

I would have to go back to the EWD to see how the door ajar light gets its signal. It could be a normally open circuit or a normally closed circuit. If the wire is cut, maybe now it see's the circuit is open so now it turns on. IDK for sure so I'm sending you to the EWD for that year.
