Ill second that. Fixed mine yesterday on the bench prior to reinstallation...too easy. Once you have it off it is easy to see how it works.
I’m putting my head back on in the next couple of days. The machine shop did a valve job and took out the service bolt. He must have forgotten because now mine is not lined up. I pulled the cam and I can’t figure out how to rotate it back. Looks like it’s just off a tooth or two.

I tried to rotate by hand and tried to separate without luck.

Any tips on how to rotate it back and pre load the spring?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I was playing around and got it to turn but it’s taking a pretty good amount of force to try to rotate so that it lines up.

Was it easy to turn it by hand? I’m trying to turn it by hand with paper towels and it seems like it going to be tough. Not alone, how i’m going to get the bolt back in by myself while I’m holding it at the proper alignment.

Thanks

IF you can get it to line up....use a vice grip to lock it in position while you install the service bolt. DON'T mar any of the gear teeth keep the vice grip on the faces of the gear.

An extra set of hands can prevent damage during this step. The camshaft has a location to put a wrench on it. You can put the camshaft into a vice at this location. The gear has some additional holes to insert service bolts. They will only be threaded into one of the halves. These bolts are then used as lever arm braces to remove spring tension. In your case, you will need to use them to load up the spring force and fit the service bolt through both halves of the gear. Read the below steps a few times. Ensure your cam will not drop out of the vice onto the floor.
