Does the A442F have 2nd start?

As title says.
If so, how do you enable it?

I noticed that.

Was curious if having the shifter in "2" from a stop would do the same thing.

I'm actually trying to diagnose some odd behavior from my transmission.

As in my sig, my truck is a combination of a 94 engine/transmission/chassis and 97 body.. Often after shutting the truck off, once started and I put it in drive to pull away it'll be very sluggish as if it is in 2nd or 3rd gear. If I charge ahead eventually the speed will get to a point where the transmision acts normally. If I put it into L and roll away then I can shift to 2 or D and it acts normal.

Anyway, with all of the wiring changes I did, and conveniently finding water in the gear detector switch connector in the past, I'm curious if I have something wrong and it is tricking the ECT into thinking I want it in 2nd start mode or something.

I have plans to build a light array to see what solenoids are activated and get more data.. but part of the process of figuring this out is trying to determine whether this transmission even has this capability designed in. Mixed info online. So, ask people here.

Sounds like a typical bad shift solenoid that so many have dealt with in the A442. I have a 93 that's doing the same thing. I'm assuming that your O/D off light is not flashing to let you know the TCU has stored codes.

My fully hydraulic a442f has second gear start. Not sure what the version behind the gas engine has.

Put the gear selector in 2 and it starts there, no need for a button.

No flashing light. I'll have to check into whether I hacked up the harness too much to use the DLC to pull codes. I do know that I kept the OD off light functional though.

Does putting the transmission into L still work on rigs with a bad noid? On mine this invariably brings it right into 1st like it should.

Also it is quite coincidental.. this started happening exactly when I did all of the wiring work. Though the truck did sit for months between the roll and getting it running again.. I can't remember if it acted funny for the one 3-hr drive I did after sitting for months but before the wiring.

I'm finding some service manual documentation showing electronic A442Fs with 2nd gear start in some markets with a variety of engines.. 1FZ, 2UZ, 1HZ, 1HD-T, 1HD-FTE.. but all of them have a button. Some of these have the transmission control built into the ECU, some dont.. of the ones that don't with similar ECT plugs as mine, the SNWO (second start switch circuit) pin options are all used by other things on my ECT.

The other connector has a few open pins..

I'm leaning toward a bad solenoid at this point.

Dropping it into low to get moving will work wih a failing solenoid in my experience.
You may want to jumper the DLC and see if any codes flash on the O/D off light. I believe that I read where the same fault must be detected in two consecutive drive cycles to set a code.

Thanks for the info, I'll look into it.
