Does anyone actually go 4 wheeling on their stock 20s?

Looking at the Smokies every day.
So there is a fair amount of discussion on AT/MT (mostly all AT though) tires on the stock 20" 570 wheels, but I don't think I've seen a single post or reply about actually taking them off pavement.

I go 4 wheeling to local offroad parks a couple times a year.
I go trail riding a couple times a year.
and
I go on forest service roads in the mountains a couple times a year.

I NEVER go rock crawling, nor will I. Going over a rock formation or a boulder or two to get down a trail will happen, but not an actual rock garden.

So other than 6-8 days a year my LX is my DD on asphalt.

I have decided for multiple reasons that I want to keep the 20s and put General Grabber X3's on them. I've had 2 sets of the Grabber AT2's and have loved them, but I want something a little more aggressive on the 200.

So my question isn't really about what size tire will fit without rubbing, but what size will fit without rubbing while offroading.

I've wheeled with some Range Rover owners who have 20-inch wheels and completely stock vehicles in some relatively rough areas of Death Valley and they seemed to do okay.

If it were me, I'd stick with the stock wheels and consider changing them out if you encounter problems.

Not the stock 570 20s, but tundra 20s survived in Moab. My wheels didn't look any worse for wear than anyone else in the group. Most were running rock warriors.

Smallest 20" in Grabber X3 that "might" fit is 295/55/20. It's 12.2" wide section width which is proablity too wide. Plus it is "E" rated and weighs 76lbs. The BFG AT/KO in 285/55/20 is D rated weighs 51lbs 11.7 section width plus it has the same tread width as the X3. Plus the BFG AT/KO2 285/55/20 will fit with no rubbing, if you go any bigger in a 20" tire you will have to modify your LX.

They actually have it in a 275/65 which is what I'd prefer. It is "E" rated though and weighs 70lbs. Please school me why the rating and weight matters. I say that seriously as I don't know much about tires.

They call it unsprung weight, just do a google search. Stock tire weighes around 31lbs, you will definitely feel a 70lb tire hanging out there. You also might check to see if anyone has ever gotten a 275/65/20 tire to fix on their 200 series. Good luck

Unsprung weight I know about. Is that all the tire ratings are for? I thought they had something to do with their pressure or the amount of weight they could hold.

edit: n/m just looked up the load range info. It's about how many plys and how much pressure.

The E rated can carry more load but if you are not towing you don’t need or want it because it will mess up your ride. The BFG at/KO2’s 285/55/20 will be great on road and handle everything including the type of rock you described. Yes they are not cheap but you get what you pay for.

So I ended up going with the Falken Wildpeaks, not the Grabbers.

No rub, even at full lock at highway PSI (34-36), minimal rub at 50% lock in the 20's. I haven't had them under 24psi yet. I'm not sure yet what they are rubbing on yet, but it's minimal enough not to bother me. I'll be doing a fair amount of wheeling in the next 3 months. I've got trips planned to forest service roads, parts of the TAT, and the local OHV park (Windrock), so I'll have some more info to report soon. If I can get my ass motivated enough, I might even make a review thread.

Yes it will. I have this size on my LX.
thanks man. Looking for 20" options with maximum sidewall for my wife's LC. i'm hoping to fit the largest tire that i can with no issues. Everything is stock, so i didn't want her to have any issues with rub or what have you.

Max sidewall on stock LX would be 275/65/20. @mcgaskins is running this size in KO2s.
Much appreciated. Just checked that size out. We have a set of winter wheels/tires, so we are interested in either a summer tire or a touring tire or smooth all season. Thanks for the info. The database had a bunch of sizes, but most of the members with larger tires tended to have a modified suspension or wheel well.
