After a long hiatus, I am getting back into the Cruiser arena.

The LX comes with these ridiculous factory gangster wheels I want to ditch ASAP. Smaller LC wheels would allow more (and cheaper) tires options plus the benefits of the larger sidewall.

Being brand spanking new to these models, I am curious what wheels fit? Guessing the breaks are the same as an LC? Are Tundra wheels a direct bolt on or do offsets differ? Other options?

Thanks!

I agree about the 20" stuff. Not practical if you value rubber on rocks, etc. rather than metal.

Stock 18" LC or Tundra wheels will work, and are fairly easy to find used. They are 60mm offset.
You can also try and locate a set of 17" Rock Warrior wheels from the "Rock Warrior" Tundra. Rock warriors are 50mm offset, and area fantastic wheels. Super strong yet light weight.

If you stick around 33" or less, there are quite a few offerings in the 20-25mm offset from Icon and Fuel that will also work, but if you go larger than 33...you'll typically need to remove mud flaps and do a bit of trimming of skirts to avoid rubbing.

If you plan to stay mostly stock, going with an 18" Tundra wheel or stock 18" LC wheel is an easy swap with no issues.
Rock Warrior wheels are highly recommended (what I run on my LC), and if you keep your eye on Craigslist, they'll pop up from time to time.

Not saying this is for everyone. But keeping the 20's, and sizing up the tires to 33-34" is a great option as well. You'll get plenty of sidewall that won't be lacking on anything except maybe rock crawling. And some better on road dynamics in trade.

I understand that you don’t like the look of the 20’s but a 275/55/20 gets you 32” and 285/60/30 gets you to 33”.

When looking on craigslist make sure they are 5 lug. Lots of Tacoma 6-lug out there advertised as Tundra/LC/LX wheels.

Probably a very over-cooked question, but here it goes anyway ;) - whats the largest diameter tire you can stuff under an LX without major rubbing?

An approximate 33" tire (285-70-17) will only slightly, rub in reverse, without any alignment changes.

I downsized to 33x11 on 18" Tundra wheels + 25mm spacer. Slight rubbing on front fender liner at full lock in reverse and front mud flap had to go.

Other folks here have stuff 34s in, but get your saw out.

Great looking rig! Do those wheels have a model number or product name? Cool wheel but have no idea how to order it...

Also, do you think you could put on snow chains as your LX sits now? Going back and forth between Alaska and Montana, the need is real (RUDD Grip 4X4) I saw a poor Range Rover guy with over sized tires DESTROY his body work in about three miles because, while the chains fit just fine, the compacted snow build up turned into a Land Rover Grinder.

If you're downsizing to 18, the largest I have seen that doesn't rub is the BFG KO2 275/70/18. I mention BFG KO2 along with the size because other tires in that same size do rub, but I have a stock LC and changed these tires out from stock on my stock 2016 LC 18 wheels and have no rubbing at all. It's listed by BFG to be 33.2 inches.

These are OEM Tundra SR5 wheels that I found locally on Craigslist and painted:

I haven’t had to use them, but I do have snowchains for rear wheels and they fit no problem. No clearance issues in rear.

Just call a few Toyota dealers and see if they have 18” LC take-offs. I got mine, along with new crappy Dunlop tires, for $750 out the door. I pulled the Dunlops off and put Blizzaks on, and am set for the snow and will be listing the four new Dunlops on Craigslist for $200. Come spring, it’s time for KO2’s on the original wheels. Looks good, fits perfectly, and exactly matches my needs.

One thing to consider is that if you are going to upgrade your rig, there are a lot more options in terms of suspension and armor for a LC than for the current LX.

285/55/20 no rub. Good for everything but rock crawling. 56lbs tire's. Great solid ride and handling. At highway speed 55-80 I run in sport mode. Around town under 55 run on normal suspension setting. True 10.1" tread width compared to most other sizes which run around 8" tread width. This much larger tread width provides more traction on the road. So when you pick your size and tire's look at tread width not just section width. Hope this helps

So, I have a question heading the other way. I dont want to hijack the thread but thought it might fit here so apologies if it doesnt. I'm wondering if there are any issues that anyone would know of if I put 265/60/18's on my 200. I have 275/70/18's on right now with KO2's and they are great. The reason I ask is we recently sold the 100 series(and yes, we constantly ask ourselves if it was a mistake), and I have a set of 18's with Blizzaks in that size from the 100 series that didnt go to the buyer. Wondering if they would work well on the 200 for the winter or if I am better off just selling them. I just know that I wont get their worth if I sell them. I'm assuming they might look a little goofy but other than that wondering if I would have any issues. Thanks!

Only issue I see is that you’ll never get stuck with those blizzard’s on there and narrow in the snow is probably better.

That would be a much smaller tire. The downsides I see:

-you will sit lower to the ground
-you will put on more miles than stock on your odometer.
-If your Blizzaks are V1s, I believe the load index for that tire is only 110, which would not be sufficient for a fully loaded 200.

Here is the difference vs stock diameter:

If you want to use the wheels with winter tires, I'd recommend a winter tire in a 255/70 R18. That will give you better height, an adequate load range, and a skinnier wheel for better winter traction.

I went about as big as you can with the OEM 20s - 275/65/20 which is a 34” tire. No clearance issues after I removed the mud flaps but I would never run chains up front because there just isn’t enough clearance on the UCA. In the rear I don’t think there would be any issues. Here it is in the neutral position:

And in the high position from another angle. These tires are appreciably bigger than my 285/70/17 ATZs on the Tacoma:
