bringing this thread back because I’m between the BP51, IMS and MRR for my 200 series. I don’t want to lose too much of the cushy ride— What’s the consensus for those of you who have miles on Dobinson suspension kits?

Also not mentioned very often is the fact that the BP-51 only has a 2” piston. No thanks for that kind of money💩

Yes, many people don't realize the 51 in BP-51 is the size, just like Bilstein 5100's.

I am up to 30k and two years on Dobinsons MRA. I still recommend it. The ride is really close to factory with the right settings, and it is much more compliant over rough roads than factory. Two years ago I drove through Valley of the Gods in Utah with a water bottle standing upright on the rear floor.

How much of an improvement in ride quality would you say the MRA has over IMS— Is the IMS better for someone who isn’t frequently off-road?

I’ll say only if you are not one to monkey with them a lot the 200 series IMS are just about perfect. I’ve installed a couple sets and I’d say they are really nice on a loaded and a nearly stock 200.

Honestly if I had know that I would have done the IMS out of the gate

This is what I needed to read. Thanks! If I’m not towing anything, should I make any considerations for springs front to rear?

I have had the IMS on mine for the last few years and they have been great. My only complaint with Dobinsons is that selecting the right coils for a desired lift height is tricky. I started with the 59-540 front coils (1.4" with no load advertised) and 59-535 rear coils (which was 2" no load at the time but is now showing 3" no load). I ended up with a bunch of rake with this setup. Then I added a TJM bumper and swapped the front coils to the 59-542 coils (2" with up to 110 lbs load). Still had rake. Then recently replaced the rear coils with 59-559v coils (2" variable rate coil with no load). I still have rake and would probably prefer having the 59-544 front coils but don't think I'll go through the effort of swapping. I now have a bunch of extra coils in the garage too. So for modest IMS lift with no load, i probably would go with what I have now (59-542 and 59-559v) and with the heavy steel bumper probably 59-544 and 59-559v.

I was about to pull the trigger on a BP-51 kit for my 200 and now thinking about the Dobinsons MRA kit. I'm running a Trekkbox set up and I pull a Opus 4 camper with a 300 pound tongue weight and not sure what springs since I'm looking for that 2.5 in lift look with little to no rake.

You should set your truck up for everyday use and add airbags for the trailer

Does the Dobinson MRA require aftermarket UCA? From purely from interference. I'd like to stay at 2" lift or less, and would like to stay away from changing the UCAs. I have 200k miles on my stock suspension lol so it's a little hard to tell what ride quality issues are inherent to these shocks, and what is just them being old.
How do you feel the on-road comfort of the MRAs is compared to stock?

They do not. I run stock UCAs and MRR and I get a good alignment. In fact this last set of tires 34s I have are coming up on 50,000 miles and they still are at about 50% tread

My advice is the check the Dobinson’s IMS. I was on the fence with the MRR and IMS and decided I don’t offroad enough to justify all the adjustability and tuning with the MRR. Whatever you decide, my advice is to get aftermarket UCAs as well.

Also I don’t think I’ve seen someone rave about BP51s. Like ever.
