Cool dogs. The wife and I have been thinking of a dobe when our current Aus Shep mix goes to doggy heaven.

I have terrible allergies to dogs & cats. How does this breed fare in that matter? I keep hearing about Poodles but I'm having a hard time with that one.

I don't have any allergies to animals, but I can tell you that dobes have very short hair which is good for our type of climate. All dogs are going to shed, but at least with dobes, the hair will be less mess than a long haired dog. Do you keep your dog inside or outside? Dobes are large and will need some good exercise, especially when they are young.

This dog has the best temperament and personality of any that I've been around. He is really good about not chewing things and not barking at nonsense. I raised him around people, so he is very good about that too.

I would have a hard time with a Poodle too. It's hard to get past the looks.

It's not the hair, it's the dander.

My outlaws have a Rot-mix which has real short hair and I sneeze the minute I see it and for 3 days after I leave. It's so bad that as much as I like it and them, I had to insist they not bring it to our house anymore. They once left it in our garage while they visitted and I still sneezed nonstop.

I have to wash my hands after petting any animal because if I touch my eyes they itch, water and swell.

I went through extensive alergy testing and weekly shots for nearly 4 years and it made no difference. My alergist at Brookwood told me I am a fluke and told me there was nothing more he could do for me unless I got rid of the dog. I got rid of him instead.

The only thing thta helps me is a cortosone shot and then only for 2-3 weeks....right back to sneezing. The :princess: calls me "Sneezey".

I really need to find a breed that I can live with. We like the look of the Dobe's but I do not want me, the wife and two young boys to get emotionally attached to an animal that I cannot physically live with. Lemme try out your dog for a day or two the next time you need to have him boarded. Seriously.

That sucks. The dander might be bad. It is visible on my dobe's coat if I haven't bathed him in a while. I will let you know the next time I am passing through bham with my pup.

Did you notice towards the end when they diverted the water from the slide to the steps, he stopped at the top and looked around like "WTF?". Then, they started it back. :D
