Dissent rear bumper lower tailgate contact?

If i'm thinking about this correctly, you'll need to loosen 12 bolts:
- 2 1/2" bolts at the rear of the recovery points
- 2 1/2" bolts going through the frame stiffeners (wing supports)... if you have LX, then only the driver's side
- 2 7/16" bolts at the bottom of each wing
- and the 4 10.9 bolts that go into the factory recovery point captive nuts

Then, the whole thing will move as one piece (no need to loosen all the stainless socket heads)

Who was the guy that thought this thing would move easily during a recovery?? 😂

haha.. yeah it won't unless you full tilt crazy with a dynamic recovery.. and then anything would...

So I think it should just be 12 bolts too but I’ve loosened those and it doesn’t want to budge. I’ve tried persuasion with my dead blow but nodda. I’ve loosened the through bolt nuts but there is weight on them. The bolts don’t budge.

Even if I get it to move back, I’m not sure I want to as I like the way the wings line up with the wheel wells. A 1/4 back will mess that up. I don’t understand how yours is tight at the receiver hitch and looks good at the wheel wells.

Here are the 6 bolts on the passenger side I’m talking about:

interesting. Maybe it's just binding? will the wings move a little if you go back and forth between the 2?

the 4 x 7/16" bolts in the wheel wells don't need to be loosened because they will slide with the stiffener that is held by the 1/2" through bolt.

I’m with you, but it’s not working. I did loosen the 7/16” wheel well bolts on one side and it freed the through bolt but the recovery bracket won’t budge. My theory is that it’s “glued” to the frame as I had painted it just prior to install and it’s been 4 months.

Just loosen all those bolts and drive backwards into something solid. :)

Hey @benc, shouldn’t the whole thing slide forward or back with the bolts in post #24 loosened?

Mine was making contact on the reverse light before swing arm latches ...only made slight contact with my 220lbs on it....just enough to scuff but not crack
...well last week I installed the swing arms latch... didn't think to check it..... today I sat on the gate and it cracked the lense housing... only thing I can think of is to replace lense cover... then heating it up to concave that area

Dissent makes plates to replace the LX reverse lights. You can also swap out the license plate holder for a 2021+ eBay knockoff… this has a small led strip vs the bulging clear lenses.

Theoretically yes. The bumper should move with those loosened. That being said I do not believe I personally have ever done this so I can’t say how easily it will move. @radman good call on moving the bumper towards the front! That may just be the issue here. That being said for future bumpers it may make sense to shorten that flange to be sure there is never contact no matter the alignment of the bumper.

See @radman post above. All lx570 orders come with the backup light delete for this reason. If you did not receive them let us know. Otherwise he did have an aftermarket solution that worked well for him.

This makes sense to me, the flange could be sheared or waterjetted a little shorter before hitting the press brake and it would totally eliminate this contact. It isn't enough to bend the metal, but it does scrape paint, so I don't think it would take much of a dimensional change to address it (but I don't know how complex that stuff is in cad). My contact area was only about 5" directly in the middle.

Hmmm. I feel a bad idea forming that involves my winch, a tree, some pulleys and a strap.....

Success on moving bumper back to avoid contact on tail gate! I had to loosen the 4 wheel well bolts to free is all up so I could move it back. All 16 bolts. I think my fresh frame paint did act like adhesive but I got it loose without winch, tree and pulleys.

I barely was having contact before so I just barely moved it back. The limiting factor was really how I wanted the bumper and wheel well interface to look. I could move it back further but then the bumper would protrude into the wheel well like a 1/4 inch. Mine did not end up tight on the receiver hitch like @radman.

My advice to future installers is to put some tape at the location shown in the photos above and check the clearance. I also used some card stock to make sure it would slide easily and that I had a little gap. I also jumped up and down on the tailgate to see if I could deflect it and make a mark on the tape.

@benc, I suggest taking like a 16th off of that whole flange then I think no one would have any fitment issues.
