Dissent rear bumper lower tailgate contact?

I replaced my tailgate straps and no longer have any contact from the bumper to the tailgate. It’s easy except for the bolts that retain the straps are made of the worlds softest metal. I had every bolt star rounding out on me with one being completely rounded. I was on a road trip of course when I decided to complete this easy task. I ended up having to stop in a random auto shop to see if they would back the bolts out for me. They had a lot of trouble as well but were able to get them all out with a special tool and the new ones in. I’ve never dealt with such soft/weak metal on a bolt.

Would you be willing to say what you replaced them with? New ones from Toyota? Something aftermarket? Something custom?

Hey @benc, shouldn’t the whole thing slide forward or back with the bolts in post #24 loosened?
I purposely had my bumper slid as far rearward as possible because of these slotted holes, I didn't want it to be able to slide back if I ever used the recovery points. Guess that was a bad idea, now it looks like I get to readjust everything. Smh

This makes sense to me, the flange could be sheared or waterjetted a little shorter before hitting the press brake and it would totally eliminate this contact. It isn't enough to bend the metal, but it does scrape paint, so I don't think it would take much of a dimensional change to address it (but I don't know how complex that stuff is in cad). My contact area was only about 5" directly in the middle.

I can reach up under the bumper and feel the gap with the tail gate open and its super close. Any flex un the tailgate from weight on it will make it hit the bumper. That flange definitely needs to be shorter. Has anyone taken off the center section and ground it down or had Dissent just send a modified center piece. I just seen this posting today so I'll be giving Dissent a phone call about it tomorrow.
