Hey Guys,
New kid on the block here, been following benc's work for a while, love the bumper, great lines, high clearance, and user-friendly! Not a critique, just a suggestion concerning the exposed bolt heads during departure off ledges, would you consider some type of bolt head protector similar to the ones used in bead locks? Please add me to the list despite this suggestion. (No bumper for you!!!...Lol)
Sorry for the late reply!
Thanks for the suggestion, I don't see it being an issue to often but even if they end up getting beat up they are cheep and easy enough to replace. One idea for guys who don't like the bolt heads sticking up is to counter sink. I will not be offering it for production but the bumpers ship bare steel so would be an easy mod to do befor powder.

I'll add you now.
Thanks.

Made a few changes to the outer wings, wasn't completely happy with how the angles matched up around the back corner with the swing out brackets so I had my cad guy add an extra bend at the top. Here is the 3D model and we'll see how in translates on metal soon.

You are one detailed person. That's a good thing. Like everyone else, anxious to see the finished version. So far you have a masterpiece!

This isn't a bumper, this is art please put me down for one. 100 series w/o swing outs.

Thanks for the kind words!

Getting the swingouts worked out. It's looking like the bear claw latches should work out great and will have a custom paddle release intagrated as the end cap of the swing arm. I hopefully will be able to get the tire on there and test it all out in the next week. This bumper also has the updated design on the wings as well.

Ben, awesome! Nice work as always.

Not to make more work for you or anything but is there a way to make the vertical height of the swing out bars smaller without compromising strength? Do they need to be that large/tall in order to hold up the weight of a spare tire, gas cans, etc?

They are 3 1/2" and would not want to go any smaller for strength. The swing arms and hinge have to be very ridgid if I'm going to pull off the use of the bear claw latches.

@benc This might just be ludicrous but what if you were to make your pre-existing bumper step the swing outs? I know that would probably take you back to the drawing board but it would reduce weight, reduce the back facing height of the bumper and make the bumper ledge/step be more functional? You could mount your spindles inside the bumper and put your mounts on the swing out bars. Basically reverse of how you have it now. Just a crazy idea. Feel free to call me an idiot if it's too wild of an idea.

I outlined what part I'm talking about.

@SALTY METHODS
I had considered this when I first started but it was not feasible with a high clearance bumper and still be structurally sound, arb does this but there bumper is twice the size. The swing arms are going to be covered anyway once the assesories go on.

I've often wondered this about other bumpers for the 100 that include the swing outs aside from the the ARB there is no option to have space to drop down the tailgate with out swinging open the arms. I realize that if you have anything on the arms you would have to swing out the arms anyway but if i wanted the arms and mounts for a long trip but not necessarily for daily use I could keep the arms on and add and remove the mounts as needed. Not sure if that made any sense. I guess my point is I would like to have arms mounted that don't require you to flip them out to open the gate, then when ready for a long trip you can quickly mount the accessories on the arms, but have the accessories off for daily use. I love this bumper just like it is right now though.

@savirc
That would be the up side but the down side is an extremely bulky bumper that make the 100 look like it has a saggy diaper. It will be just as easy if not easier to simply remove the 1" bolt on the swing arm and remove it completely if one wanted to run without swingouts.

I personally would rather remove the swingouts with 2 bolts and have a clean looking, non-swingout bumper vs. Having to remove the spare and any other accessories and even then, you only have the upper hatch and not the tailgate. Plus having super low and empy tire and fuel carier would look funky.

Got some fine tuning done on the swing arm tonight, got the gas assist spring and the mock of of the release and linkage. I'm pretty happy with how easy the swing out is to operate! Takes less than a second to open up.

That paddle latch is genius! Very nice!
