Will do. I should have guessed that you had something more aesthetically pleasing in the works

Ben, what did you do with your exhaust/muffler? did you reroute it so it doesn't hang down below the bumper?

Could the swing-out brackets be more boxed - with the outside of the box acting as the limit/stop?

And yeah - by far the best looking, most integrated bumper I've seen. Well done Ben.

Thanks Mark,
That is exactly what I had in mind.

So would that be a Married or Not Married Product Option?
If there is ever a plan to run swing outs you would want to order with the brackets. I was going to have the brackets bolt on and still might but due to strength may have to be welded.
In this case the swingouts would still be removable by pulling the 1" pins but the brackets would stay in place.

Hrmm, I'm a little hesitant about the swing bracket in both strength and aesthetics. I'm with you on the double sheer arrangement, but the way the bracket is mounted to the bumper doesn't make this architecture inherently stronger than the traditional single sheer of the other bumpers.

Perhaps there's an opportunity to make the lower sheer point be in the bumper body itself? with a spacer to bring it up to the right height? Then the bolted part would be the support for the upper sheer of the hinge?

Totally my opinion and I'm sure you'll make the right choices as you iterate on your design!

Like I said, that bracket is what came with the hinge, I guess I shouldn't have posted that pic as it was only tacked there to mock up the swing arms. As soon as I have the swing arms mocked up with the new brackets and internal gussets it will all make sense.

  • In all honesty, I appreciate the questions! As much as I try to think of everything, there are things and ideas I have used on both front and rear bumpers from the members on this forum. This is the reason I start a thread before the product is built and imho the reason I have built and sold over 60 front bumpers in just over a year. I expect the rear bumpers will be no different. My main goal is and will continue to be, listen to the consumer and to the best of my ability build a product that meets there wants and needs. I do get a lot of great ideas from the consumers and truly mean it when I say I appreciate the feed back. There are going to be some things that just don't make sense production wise but I do my best to build a bumper for most everyone's needs. The swingouts bracket issue was my fault for posting a pic of mock up and not being clear.

i think this bumper warrants a lot of merit but Im struggling to like the aesthetics of the connection of the wings to the center piece as well as the cut 'T' in the end cap. If the bumper looked as one continuous piece across the back I'd agree with others and vote it as best looking bumper out there. the welding/quality of work is top notch though, very nicely built.

If you have ever tried to install a one piece bumper on these than you would completely appreciate the concept behind the 3 piece design. Like I have told people in the past, another thing I have to consider when building these bumper is ease of shipping and installation, as of now it's just me doing this out of my garage so I need to be able to handle, ship, and install by my self.
The t cutouts will change a little but they serve a purpose as well, they are there as high-lift jack points.
I understand that we all want the rigs to look good but at the end of the day the biggest reason for a bumper upgrade is protection and function. If you really look closely at the other bumpers I really think the caps will bother you less compared to the square, bulky boxy options available now.

understood and appreciate your response. looking forward to seeing it finished and painted. maybe the connections will be less noticeable once painted.

No progress pics but progress is being made. Should have a complete bumper with all frame brackets and triangulated receiver crossmember by mid next week.
Will post pics of the internals then. Swingouts will come shortly after.

I have an insurance check, in-hand, for my rear bumper. Just waiting on a price for a rear with no swing outs.
