I ran a 3.5 trail at Hawk Pride with no issues (other than a bad line which allowed me to rationalize replacing the rear bumper with a Slee). I'm not really into rock crawling, that was about as rough a trail as I enjoy driving, and the truck was plenty capable.

I'm an ex Jeep mechanic for a well know Jeep fabricator. I've also owned a TJ wrangler with an 8.8 rear, superior front, 35" tsl's, chopped fenders, locked, etc. I used it strictly for off road and push it to its limits every time, often past its limits. I've been between rocks replacing upper and lower ball joints on the trail after ripping the spindle off of the axle (HP D30 was the biggest weakness).

I could not be happier to be in my 100 series. Being a Jeep mechanic is why I drive toyotas. My 100 won't do half of the fender bashing trails my Jeep did, but I'm into that anymore. One thing my 100 will do is take me pretty much anywhere I want it to. Each time I take it off road, it totally blows me away with how capable it is.

Not only is it amazingly capable, I can carry all my gear, 2 big dogs, and still have room for rear seat passengers to tag along.

Also, I read in the past the the 100, with the ifs has a better RTI than a ZJ with its solid front axle. I'm not certain that is fact, but it wouldn't surprise me one bit.

I forgot to mention the most important part. Not only is the 100 extremely capable, it's extremely reliable. My Jeep almost ruined my appeal to offroading because of how unreliable it was. I spent half of all my wheeling trips worrying about what was going to break next and was i going to be able to fix it on the trail or limp it out. I wheel with absolute joy and confidence now.

I sold my 60 to get a 100. Best decision I've done yet. The 100 will do anything the 60 will but in comfort. AC going in leather seats listening to pandora haha
Agreed. I *loved* my 60. But the power, comfort, and features of the 100 are much better for me (at 46) than the 60. I use my 100 as a part-time DD as well as expo/search and rescue rig. Apart from an alternator going out on me about a block from home. Its never let me down. 1999 with 270k on the clock. Build it right. Drive it right. And you will be searching for another "just in case" this one fails you. Mine still hasn't.

This thread needs some pics.

OP. You're gonna be fine. Take it on some trails and find out for yourself.

What's your end goal?
Actually Exploring = 80
Travelling = 100 or 200
My take coming from an 81 to a 100. There's a ratio in there somewhere and the UZJ100 seems to fit the bill (for now).

3 of those 5 pics are HDJ105's btw and SA. Edit: Guess Slee's isn't a 105

Ok, confession of an idiot coming. I am much better with a wrench than I am the computer so I just discovered the "next page" button and realized there were more replies to this thread. :bang:

I am totally stoked on these replies. I'm certain I made the right choice. Not only about gong from Jeep to LC, but also about choosing the 100. Looks to me like this thing is going to do everything and go everywhere I need, and then some.

I am now searching through the threads for max tire size on stock suspension. I am smart enough to know there must be a 1000 threads on it here, just taking me time to find it. I saw somewhere there is a FAQ, so I am on the hunt for that.

285/75 is pretty much the standard, some run 295's. The 100 will likely do anything you ever want and more, I've yet to see a thread where someone regretted buying theirs or failed to complete a trail due to not being capable enough.

....or failed to complete a trail due to not being capable enough.

:worms:

Ill bite. I did not complete a trail. Maybe it was because at the time i had stock tires. Or i didnt have lockers. Either way it was an uphill climb i did not make. Im going back for more July 2nd with new 287/75/16's MT. No locker just ATRAC. The adventure continues...

Actually, I believe all of those are UZJ100's with IFS (that's why they are lifting a wheel), and they are US plates, where we only received the IFS. Only Slee's Blueberry, which was still UZJ100 with a straight axle conversion.

I went through a oh-no phase after I got the100. It went as, is she a bit too big for the trail? Is she too heavy? Even too luxury versus the more stripped down vehicles like the jeep... Having owned her for four years, I love this 100. It has done every difficult trail I' ve managed to throw her into. She carries 8 people in comfort, she's fantastic.

I have a couple of friends question me on the capability of the LC, they didn't know anything about these rigs...this was my response:

Top 10 Used Overland Vehicles

Enjoy your rig and know, for a fact, you've got one of the best expedition vehicles ever shippedto the US. If toyota engineers didn't think an IFS could do most of what the solid axel can, they wouldn't have made the 100 with IFS!!!
