I've got the 1997 LX450 with the RS3000 security system and thought that the Toyota keyfobs would be compatible. Unfortunately, I've tried a number of keyfobs that say that they're for the RS3000 security system, but don't work with the Lexus (or my) variant.

Does not work (with my Lexus):
TOYOTA BAB237131-013
Aftermarket "KeylessOption" brand (black version) BAB237131-022

So far, this crappy remote is the only keyfob that works, but the battery drains really fast and the range sucks even after doing the antenna mod on the RS3000 unit under the driver's seat:
QualityKeylessPlus Key Fob for Lexus FCC ID BAB237131-032

The Lexus version information is:
Part #: 08191-60820-RK
FCC ID: BAB237131-032

Has anyone seen this behavior on their LX450? Does the LX450 keyfob work for the Toyota RS3000? I'm considering swapping my Lexus RS3000 for a Toyota version if the keyfobs are backwards compatible.

You need a FOB with the same FCC ID: BAB237131-032, either Lexus or Toyota. Any others will not work.

I had a fob that got dumped into the lake. Dried it out immediately and it worked but drained a new battery within a couple of days. A friend that is an EE opened it up and in two minutes found a failed shunt capacitor. Determined the circuit really didn't need it. Removed the capacitor and has been working fine for 10 years now,

Bought that too and now I have 2 remotes I have no use for. Brand new. If anybody wants them, pm and I can sell to you. I thought the wiring was the issue. Turns out it’s the remotes...

Are you sure you're programming it correctly?

No need to buy junk from Amazon or eBay. The correct OEM replacement is PT398-07100
You can but it from McGeorge Toyota for $56.44, Security, Vehicle Security System - Toyota (PT398-07100) | Toyota Parts

To program there is a green button on the side of the black alarm box under you drivers side seat.
Insert the key and turn to the on position.
Press the Green button and hold until the red alarm light flashed.
Then press one of the two buttons on the remote.
That button should now be programmed and you can test it.
The second button will do nothing.

Cheers!

Just purchased this one and it works. The ratings list LX450s several times. Under $20.00 with DIY instructions.

Check this one on AMAZON-

There are two remotes that look like that. One is all black and the other has a Greyish case. The black one will work for every RS3000, The grey one only works on 98 and up. That one looks grey to me.
It's most definitely the black one

I also picked up some OEM replacement keys from Vintage Teq Parts for $9.25 each while I was at it.

You can order those through Toyota as well as I bought two as spares. They're not OEM to the 80 series which is NLA. The original 80 series key, at least on my '97, is larger and flatter.

Where did you get the fresh key fob, though? Mine's old and would love to have another new one. Thanks.
