WOW... just got done reading your thread. Hope you get your remaining issues worked out soon.

I was planning on repairing and repainting mine without removing the tub but realized the best way is to remove the tub, etc. I am in the same boat as you - not much mechanical experience but willing to try almost anything once. Your thread has a lot of useful info that I will incorporate into my rebuild.

Kevin,
When you start a tread there will be a lot of people helping you through your build.
Good luck

Thanks man :D

Yeha the tub is mad easy to remove and install, I did it in a tiny garage ( had a buddy help me lift it off and lift it back on when it was painted. )

Make sure you mark your wiring harness well at every disconnection, i jsut used tape and a marker to tell me where each connection goes, and be careful taking it out etc :D

good luck man, hopefully you can learn from some of my missteps haha :D

Post up your thread when ya start, and take photos of EVERYTHING before you disassemble, to help reassembly :D

hmm called american toyota and from Dans message it seems like he is out of town this week.

Anyone know who else i can order the valve regrind kit from? 04112 - 60062
( it is supposed to have the headgasket and manifold/ valve cover thermostat gaskets )

If you have the part number I would hope any Toyota dealer could get you the part. I just picked up a long spline full floating axle out of a 70 series. One of the local dealers gave me a good discount when I asked. The 70 series was never imported to the US and they didn't have a part number. I gave them the number and they found it no problem. Should be just the same for this. Your are dealing with a vehicle Toyota USA decided to no longer support in their part number catalog. So you have to have the number for them. It is the same when I have dealt with CDan.

Destin, have a question for you about your seats. I have bench seats that need work especially the drivers side. They need recovering, new foam and maybe spring work. I am torn between reupholstering the bench seats or getting new bucket seats. I would prefer keeping the bench seats but right now they are uncomfortable - at least the drivers side is.

The seat covers that AATLAS1X did for you look awesome. If I decide to reupholster my seats I would probably go with these. I've seen you mention they are comfortable. Do you still find them comfortable after a long trip?

Where did you get your foam?

Kevin

I love my seats :D

If you are able to get o set of Shane's repo covers you will not be disappointed, soooooo nice :)
The foams are form SOR and they are super thick and cushy!

When you have the seat apart you can replace the lil springs that hold the vertical metal coils together for a more uniform seat.

I think the seats provide extra suspension on the trail, as the stock suspension is nice and rigid for better traction :) I think with out the extra spring of the stock bench seats offroading might not be so comfy :D

Thanks Destin.... That's good to here. I want to stay with OE stuff as much as possible. Hopefully my drivers seat won't require much for spring repair but at this point I bottom out when hitting bumps (not off road). When I get closer (need to start first) I will order covers from Shane.

awesome man, I have not touched my motorbike all summer :(
you have some bad ass twisties out your way too, like a racetrack :)

have not heard anything from the shop yet, been swamped with work hehe.
Might call em later, but they are prolly waiting for the toyota valve cutting kit/gaskets set.

i will post up later ;)

Sorry if I didn't dig back through all of the posts, but have they determined the root cause of the issue? Did I miss a post?

What happened?

They have no explanation for what caused it...

They said it definitely did not overheat at all, but the head gasket def went out on 5 and 6

They are thinking their cheap gasket failed?

This is on the heels of them telling me that head gaskets just do not go bad...
They were trying to tell me bad timing can pop a head gasket etc etc, btu all my s*** was spot on.

So, no one really knows man, and everyone is just shrugging.
I like reasons for things personally....

:D

If anyone has a clue let me know haha

Sounds like they found something they don't want to admit doing wrong. These are technical people they want to know what went wrong.

Just get her on the road again and start enjoying :D
