Pappy - which part of NMBDR are you doing? Looks like you're going from Cabezon to Grants over Mt Taylor, yes?

I'm home. I went to Guadalupe Ruins off SR279, which is just south off the BDR. From there the BDR branches up into the mountains, or goes to Cuba. I did the segment from the ruins to Hwy 550.

I will go the other way to Grants when the weather warms. Those 27 degree nights suck.

Gotcha. I'm not a winter camper, I just whine a lot.

I wasn't prepared. We have camped in colder, but then I expected it and pack accordingly. I wasn't ready for the cold and windy this time. I think my feet are still trying to thaw.

Had to go play at Cedro peak area.

Muddy for sure. Glad you gave it a try. I was over there on 4/3 , with a couple of others, and it was dry and dusty. Nice close place to wheel.:steer:

More hiding from da'virus. Socorro area.

Back out into the weeds. This time near Socorro, east side of I-25, sort of in the Gordy Hill area. Very sort of. I did what I'm going to call a Quebradas loop. There is the Backcountry Byway, which is cool, but I decided to explore this area beyond the Byway. I did a clockwise loop, finishing with the Backcounty Byway. I also took a detour down to the Jornada del Muerto.

On the way back I encountered this fella. He said he lost control. No kidding. I wondered if he was driving it like he stole it. Regardless. He said he didn't have a phone. I let him use mine, though nobody answered. I offered to try and pull him up. He declined. So I left him with his shovel.

There is miles and miles of roads back in there. I have driven in from Mountainair area and got to Socorro through there. I passed roads going off in all directions.
We need to check it out more. Ranches , BLM and WSMR, and UFO's probably. 🛸🚀 Glad you are getting out and exploring.

Not kidding on the ranches and WSMR. I was way north of the range, just on the Sevilleta NWR southern border, and all the roads were labeled WSMR ###. I came through a gate and some good ol' boys were herding cows on ATV's. We got to talking and I asked him about the WSMR designation on the roads. He said it was a buffer zone for the missile range.

The Quebradas road area was nice. The other side of the loop was very well grazed. Lots of cows and poop. The trick to finding a decent camp was to try and get half way between windmills.

Good thing he didn’t haul off and hit you with that shovel. I’m pretty leery of folks when I’m solo!

somewhere in the jemez off 31 Mile Rd on Espanola side.. propane firepit was great!
Which propane firepit are you using? We use a Solo Stove which is awesome and contained but I am looking for a propane one during the fire ban.

Down to the San Mateo Mountains for three nights. Hardly a soul in sight. Just a few ranchers.
