My apologies, fellas, I clicked on many links, and one auto-forwarded me to a different short block part number. I need to internet better. Anyway, Fred Anderson cancelled the three short blocks for me and is looking to get me two of the correct ones, 11400-66401, for about $3k each, which seems normal.

You should send MR @bhsdriller a thank you beverage. I am not sure how easy it is to return a short block, much less three of them. The shipping charges alone . . . .

How about I drink to him instead? Cheers!

Yeah, it was an administrative error. Didn’t actually order it, no need to return anything. Just cancelled the transaction. I provided a VIN but they wouldn’t let me purchase it anyway….SE Toyota has a lock on this according to parts department person I spoke with. They will call me back after speaking to their management to see if they can sell me two short blocks…..11400-66041.

Special ordered parts are not returnable to Toyota.
Modern Toyota in Boone, NC called me and told me they won’t sell these short blocks unless the customer is actively getting their Land Cruiser serviced there. This is due to too high of liabilities and special orders aren’t returnable as you stated.

The gentleman I spoke to, expressed his regret, “because this would’ve been a nice sale”.

So one shortblock and an oil change please.

Funny. "Nice sale" on paper.

This is a co-op program. Southeast Toyota reimburses dealers who sell the part for below cost only up to the actual cost of the part that a dealer has to pay to buy it from the distributor (SET). They will actually make no money on these sales. These sales are used by Southeast Toyota to show big Toyota (TMNA) that they sell tons of parts. And the dealership principals get kickbacks from Southeast Toyota in the form of vacations, etc.

It's just a numbers game.

Thanks for the breakdown, of course it’s a trivial method of doing business. Two years ago I bought a short block for $2800 delivered. After speaking to those guys, they want NOTHING to do with these sales events. Not worth the hassle for the menial returns.

Earlier today, I also spoke with the Fred Anderson of Asheville parts guys and they too had to get special permission to let me buy two of these things. I got approved for two, but he won’t charge me until he knows he can get them. According to the parts dudes, there are 7 in California and 1 in Florida.

Here’s my receipt; still a good deal imo:

Sounds fishy to me.
