De-pin connectors?

I think there's a tool. I just use a pin or something thin and push the terminal lock down and then slide the wire/terminal out. It's sometimes helpful to push the wire terminal in the plug a bit, b4 pushing the lock down.

I just ordered the Amoron kit. I have used the little free screwdrivers from the tool trucks in the past - sadly they are all gone now.
 
There are two types of retaining methods in a connector housing on 40s.

Tang (pictured above and my less favorite) and Tang-less .

Tang-less is where the housing has the plastic retainer which needs to be slightly lifted with a small pick to remove. Same concept, just different method.

Both are commonly used, so use a light to verify which you are working with when de-pinning.

This works on male and female alike?
Yes, noting the variation I mentioned above.
