Why not the twin turbo 4.0 V8 going in the GSF and LCF since we are probably talking a $100k vehicle anyhow?

An LC-F and Supra would then directly compete with each other even more so, especially with the same engine. Plus, add in whatever the hell BMW is going to make with the chassis, Z5M (hopefully clownshoe revival), the rumored 8 series return or whatever.

Glad I bought my 2015. Toyota is no longer going to send us a world class SUV. They are going to send us a vehicle that conforms to future "California" type vehicle standards.

I meant putting that engine in the Land Cruiser. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

So many naysayers about a turbo 6. Until 1998 the LC was 6 cylinders (albeit an online 6). It's not like a mustang or Camaro where there's a V8 legacy.

I have a buddy with the last gen F150 with the ecoboost twin turbo and I have to say I'm impressed by its ability to make power at all sorts of RPMs. And Toyota is not unfamiliar with turbos - they have them on their Diesel engines all over the world.

Combine a TT V6 with an improved crawl ratio like Jeep's 44:1 witg 80% of available torque at idle (in a 6 cylinder engine no less) and I think you'll be surprised.

The concern is reliability and longevity, low maintenance.

Turbo reliability has increased quite a bit since the 80s and 90s.

Reliability is one, if not THE, most important factor in what makes a Land Cruiser a Land Cruiser. I can't recall Toyota putting a subpar (comparatively speaking) engine in a land cruiser, ever.

I'm going to guess; whatever engine it is, it'll be phenomenal. If it's half as good as the 3UR, I'll be impressed.

Complexity is not an issue so long as it's validated. I absolutely trust Toyota in this regard. One would be kidding themselves if they thought anything in the 200-series is not already complex. Plus I have a little thing for turbos.

Toyota's been doing the turbo thing for decades. I had a JDM Toyota Supra twin turbo swapped into my IS300 back in the day. Dialed in to ~400hp with my own tuning. That driveline never skipped a beat in the 100k+ miles I put on it, on the track, and hooning day to day.

Bring on the turbos!

Anyone know how the turbo in the 3.0L V6 diesel in the Prado has held up? I drove one of those in Costa Rica. If the turbo (IIRC it's a twin turbo) in that has held up, I have no reason to believe they would have any issues with any other power plant.

You could ask the VDJ guys, since that has two turbos and is in the 200. That motor has been around about ten years, I think. Only negative things I've read on those motors were the early ones had some oil consumption thing, and the diesel injectors are particular about their fuel quality.

cannot imagine a car carrying the Supra nameplate without a straight 6, the manual transmission comment is hopeful.

I am not sure if appropriate in this tread, but I need to release myself.... My 2015 200 5.7 EXR in Dubai is a perfect vehicle! After 30 years of Fords in this region, I moved 3 years ago to a brand new 200, and know now how a SUV should drive... no rattles and defects from the day you buy it, even after significant millage it drives like new. Wow. I think now there is no better than LC! Because of my experience, I also convinced my wife to get a Rav 4, instead of a replacement of her 2015 Explorer, and she absolutely loves her new 2017 Toyo!

The only V6 I'm aware of in Prados around here it's the 1GR actually in prados and 7* series but it's 100% NA ..

The Prado has never had a twin turbo, nor a V6 diesel. The 3.0 diesel is a 1KD shared with the Hilux and Fortuner. In 2015 it was replaced in some markets by the new 1GD 2.8L diesel

Might've been a 3L 4 cyl turbo diesel (i.e. the 1KZ-TE engine) and not a 6. It was definitely a twin turbo diesel, but it was a few years ago that I drove it as a rental so my memory is a bit hazy.

1KZ is single turbo. We had a Prado 90 with this engine and it never skipped a beat. As far as I know only the only twin turbo diesel from Toyota is the 1VD used in the 200

What do the 70s get?
