I was sitting at the bank drive-thru when my ABS and VSC lights came on randomly. Any explanation?

Check to see if your brake still works. I think all those lights came on when my master cylinder went out and I had little or no brake pressure.

That happened in my 2000 when my ECU crapped it's pants. (but also had a CEL too, IIRC)

My cruiser is a 2000 with 111k.

I have a feeling this might cost me losts of cash. :bang: Should I take it to Toyota to pull codes?

are there any other symptoms? does it effect any of the LC drive ability?

take the battery cables off and let it sit for 15 minutes. Reconnect and let the ECU reset.

shot in the dark but worth a try

just spoke to my local toyota master tech. He thinks a sensor is the likely culprit.

I'm taking it in tomorrow for diagnostics.

I really wasn't being a smart a#$ when I said to check the gas cap. Same thing happened on my '04. Took it to the Toyota dealer. Pulled codes. 75 dollars later I found out that the spouse had left the gas cap loose.

I didn't think you were being a smart a@#. I did in fact check the gas cap.

I did disconnect the battery. My dash has yet to light up again, although, it's at toyota now getting diagnostics.

My wife drives my truck often, I can't risk catastrophic failure. So many folks on this board implying possible master cylinder failure!!

speed sensor was the culprit. thanks for the help knuckle heads.....

Although the speed sensor was the culprit here, you should keep in mind in these situations that the brake/vsc/trac systems can all fail when the master control module goes wonky. In BMWs of a certain age the Bosch units regularly failed and the replacement was 1300 plus labor. I found that there isx a company in Idaho that rebuilds them for $350 and guarantees the rebuild for either 5 years or forever. Since the, presumably denso, units in the UZJ100s don't seem to have this problem all that often, It would seem to not be as big a problem, but it is nice to know that there is an option that does not run in the thousands. Its a simple swap in the BMWs and you can even drive without the unit in place (just cover the socket with foil and remember that you do not have abs, vsc or traction control.
