I bought a 2003 LC with 109,000 miles in December. Last Saturday morning, on my way into work, the ABS/VSC/Brake lights lit up & the dash alarm went off. This happened twice, both times the moment I hit the brake. Brakes worked fine, though. After a few seconds, the lights & alarm went off. The ABS was working fine, too (roads were a little icy so I intentionally hit the brakes hard to get the ABS to kick in, and it did).

Didn't drive the truck on Sunday & took it in to my local mechanic yesterday. It had codes for ABS failure and a problem with the actuator. My mechanic did some tests (got the pump to run & something about hitting the break pedal 40 times) & couldn't duplicate the problem. We agreed to wait & see if the problem happens again. My mechanic decided to order a new diagnostic tool that he said may tell more about the problem.

This morning on my way in to work, sure enough, the alarm went off three times. Interstingly, my foot wasn't on the brake during either time (twice while coasting and once wihile in park). Again, the brakes work just fine. The pavement is dry now, so I didn't try to get the ABS to work.

It's back at the mechanic now (he's freeing up the seized e-brake in case I need to use it). His new diagnostic tool will show up today & he's going to use it to see if it tells him anything more.

Any advice for me? I hate the thought of paying $2k to get a new master cylinder & pump installed. I'm wondering if there's an electrical problem that could be causing the alarm to go off.

I am having my own ABS issue's My Code was c1225/25. Per the FSM I am going to test the harness for an open or short. If can rule that out then I am also looking at a modulator/master cylinder assm. The best price i have found is $1900. I may see if CDAN can get me a better price. Best of luck, keep us posted

Well, my mechanic got his new Bosch scanner today and it listed the same code as before-- a problem with the accumulator. He's conviced that I need a new one. He said it's leaking & the motor isn't working that well, either.

I went ahead and ordered a new master cylinder/accumulator kit from CDAN for $1,657. Ouch.

I am still a little concerned that there may be some sort of electrical problem that caused this. My mechanic said there were no electrical-related codes.

I have seen other posts indicating that non-dealer scanners may not read all ABS codes. Not sure if that's true; my mechanic said his scanner will read all the codes. My local dealer will read the codes for $45. I'm pondering having the dealer check it out.

I had mine checked by an independent toyota shop. The used a tough book and a obd interface. I think they used TIS software. I finished my diag and found the OHMs reading out of spec. So I guess I will be giving CDAN a call. The ARB and Sllee bumbers will be on hold for a while!!

I had front right wheel sensor failure and OBD II reader would not get it. I have LC 04. There is a little box on the right side of the engine compartment (near the air filter) used for diagnostics. You jumper two connectors and read the blinking lights on the dashboard. Then figure out the code. You might get the same one as your mechanic already got. Does not hurt to check it though as this is how factory service manual suggest to check if you do not have Toyota scanner. There should be a description of this procedure somewhere in the forum.
