Funny side note. That movie was one of those that fell into a category that everyone has. The "I can't believe you've never seen it one" So last year I finally watched it. Still not sure why it was that big of a deal, I'm guessing at the time of release it was one of the first xmas comedies.

I didnt get it either, but as I've gotten older, I can see why older peeps think it reminds them of their childhood. my wife cant stand that movie, because it was filmed in Cleveland, where she grew up. they filmed in Higby's Dept Store, and apparently her 1/2 sister worked there, and firmly believes she (the 1/2 sister) lived every moment in that movie. so its effectively ruined that one for us.

In terms of xmas comedies I think Christmas Vacation is still the gold standard with some others creeping up the line. Bad Santa was and still is one of our must watch every year.

you cant go wrong with Christmas Vacation. even the edited.for regular tv version is ok, cause you can mock them for their editing
