Growing up in the drag racing/muscle car crowd though I new my way around those cars at the junk yard to scavenge their front suspension and resell it..... for some reason a lot of the rears of the cars were a little charred

The principle this relates to is called Bosun's chair. The fun questions ..... what happens if you make the buckets heavier or lighter?
As soon as the mass of the table gets to be more than the total mass of the buckets and their contents, the table goes down and the buckets go up. Otherwise the system is in equilibrium until the rope snaps ....
