warmed up some this weekend so @OlYellr and i bounced over to storage. dropped my batteries in, gave it a couple glow cycles and it fired right up.

drove it a whole 3 blocks home and tucked it in to the shop.

talked about tires and such with bryan, decided that i was good with the 265/75-16's on there.

then the next day another buddy gave me 5 255/85-16 km3's. a little tired on the tread (heh, pun intended) but the price was right. they're the size i wanted to run.

attempting to keep my slap list to a realistic budget and to finance it as much as possible with money from facebook marketplace.

posted a set of these advans the on FBM to fund converting my 8274 to 24V with a Bow motor, contactor, and some bus bars.

anyways, gonna take wheels and tires to get the 255's mounted this week and get tall n skinny's on.

more to come.

alright then.

feel like poopy today but the dayquil propped me up enough to go out and pull the bumper sections off the rear crossmember.

i needed to get a better view of what lies beneath so that i could visualize how to do the bumper/tire carrier we're gonna build for this thing.

the idea is mainly to get the weight of the wheel and tire off the door and still have the LH door be accessible.

to be brief, i have a plan.

alright then.

just a photo dump tonight. i went through some of the wiring to remove the security system. had to plug a fob into a slot in the dash. anyway, it's on the list to remove.

i knew that the wiring was kind of a dumpster fire...

without further adieu, and in no particular order:

Looks familiar. Don't understand how more JDM rigs don't burn to the ground.

alright then.

i had planned to dig in to that glovebox wiring fiasco last night to see if i could salvage any of it.

well folks, i decided that's not a turd i care to polish. it's getting wiped clean to get a fresh start.

my truck has a nifty little accessory fuse block under the hood. looks like oem and shows up on the factory diagrams. let's call it oem.

anywhoozle, it has 3 circuits on it. 1 is constant 24v, the other 2 are switched 24v. picked up a few blue sea 5028's on ebay last night. que smedly laugh. 8^)

i'll keep y'all posted. it should be a little cleaner than what's there now.

cheers

Hello,

It is a power outlet. That is how the manual calls it. It comes in handy when adding electrical stuff to your truck.

An underappreciated/underused part in my book.

alright then.

more photo's tonight. not a lot done, just stripping out the gordian knot which is all the wiring that toyota didn't put in there. just call it the gift that keeps on giving.

hover truck is always fun.

generally you can't go wrong with tall and skinny 33's.

removed all the hot wires that weren't doing anything. popped all the fuses out of the accessory block under the hood. especially proud of chucking that pvc junction box into the bin. 8^)

buttoned back up tonight. i'd like to drive it some for now. in the mean times, i can get my plan together for a center console and power distribution panel.

is it just me, or is the 70 series dash really one of the most accessible things on the planet? i mean, i've crawled around under a lot of dashes in my years as a mech, and this thing just makes sense. everything is easy to get to, you don't have to lay down in the footwell to reach anything... it's so, well, accommodating.

all for tonight.

cheers

I need to learn how to use all the functions of the power probe. - if you offer a MasterClass, I’ll sign up

bryan, that version 4 you lent me is sooo far ahead of my old ones... i'll need to use it some more to familiarize myself with it. i was mainly using to just check the hots and grounds. 8^)

i've been thinking about that switch panel above the radio and just keep getting more annoyed by it.

why would you run the relays right next to the switch with the power ins and outs all the way in the cabin... just mount the relays closer to the power supply and loads?

if i had any hair, id pull it out in frustration. it's gonna take me all six months just to re do all of it.

not really. i like a challenge. its going to be light years better.

This will end up a Master Class how to wire OEM style. I may get a front seat to the action but too dumb to know the right questions to ask.

observe and learn, young padawan.

Looks almost like an R/C rig! (except I cant find a manufacturer that does a MWB body...)
I actually really dig the bumper-less rear and no side steps.
The minimalist appearance has a slight beauty to it!
(if you remove the rear door wheel carrier you can polish that entire square back end and have even more lovely angles to gawk at)

simple is what i like as well. taking things away that aren't really necessary is an easy way to achieve this.

kind of like what i do with my motorcycles. less is better.

IMG_9652.jpeg

i like the clean rear as well, but we're getting a plan together to build a bumper/tire carrier just to get the spare off of the door. i really want to keep the design clean and functional. as simple as possible. so, of course, that mean's it's going to take a lot of work.
