Parts are in, will be heading down on Friday morning for the fix. I also ordered some of Marlin's Heavy Duty Axle seals.

Couple of more days...

Dang...if I'd only known...Marlin was at the PMC swap meet. Alvaro picked up the same seals from him that day.

Thats good news Jack!
Whens the next run?
Im awaiting my seals from Marlin as well. I hope theyre as good as everyone raves about. I HATE my knuckles leaking from that damn seal!

Nothing hardcore planned for runs.

I hope the seals are as good as everyone says as well. Mine are only about 5k miles old, but if these are that good, then why not? I know that with the stockers on the 80's, they can last anywhere from 60-100k, but still, better is better.

I guess it is about time I do the update.

Had a hell of a time getting to Sac on Friday. There was a tractor-trailer crash at Farad, where the it is down to one lane each direction. I sat in traffic between Boomtown and Goldranch for 45 minutes or so, before I could get turned around. I went through Verdi to Dog Valley road and up and over the dirt road and came out a Hirshdale, did I mention I was in Darcie's little car? Anyway, it took me two hours from the time I left my house (6am) to get to Truckee.:bang:

Now you would think it would be smooth sailing, but oh no, there is a massive amount of construction on 80 over the summit area, but with being one of the only vehicles on 80 westbound it wasn't too bad. Did I mention that I had to pee? Well the reststop on the summit was closed, the reststop at Goldhill was closed, so I had to wait until I hit Auburn to be able to take care of that. :whoops:

I get to Sean's and he is at physical therapy, so he doesn't make it to the shop until around 10:30am. A friend called me and told me they just got the road open from the TT crash. Sean did get right on it and went through the diff with a fine tooth comb. He must have assembled and dis-assembled it a couple of times, by the way the pinion bearing was fine. The pre-load had just come un-loaded. After several tries and putting everything through the parts washer, he finally noticed on the solid spacer, that there was a minor scrub mark on the part that flares out from the outer bearing, so basically, the outer bearing cage was touching the spacer. That was causing a false pre-load reading. He put the spacer in the mill and chamfered the area down a little and put it all back together. I left the shop around 12:30pm. After two hours and a lot of work, he didn't charge me a thing.

Time to head back to Reno. So back through the Sac traffic, up and over, through the summit construction and back into a mess around Farad, so slow going again, but I finally made it home around 3:30pm, long day.:steer:

I got up on Saturday morning and went to work. It took me about 5 hours to get it buttoned up. Everything seems good now, I don't feel any vibes, but I do still have a slight "growl" upon decelerating.

On Sunday, I asked Keith to come up and help me install the winch that I have had since before Moab. We had to do a little wrestling, but we got it in. I had some other things to do, so I don't have it hooked up yet, hope to get that done sometime this week. I am hoping that because the springs are designed to hold up the weight of the winch and dual batteries, that it will "sag" out into the position to put the d-line into the angle it should be at.

Whew.

dang, I'm exhausted reading your tale....

What're your thoughts on the Marlin axle seals?

Imagine living the tale.:hillbilly:

In a side by side comparison, I am impressed. Where the stock seal is maybe 3/16 wide, Marlin's are probably half again as wide, so a lot more area on the axle that it is sealing against. Which is nice, considering my axle shafts have 160k worth of seal wear on them. Granted the stock seals were not leaking at all, but these should aleviate any chance. It remains to be seen whether they will last as long.

You're diff must have been contagious . I've got a gear growl. I was in Sac yesterday and had Sean drive it. So it looks like I'll be renting a car so he can tear it down over a couple days soon.

I was wondering how your visit went. That sucks. Hopefully it isn't anything major. How many miles have you put on your truck with the gears/locker?

I just got my brand new OEM dual filler neck assembly a couple weeks ago from Japan4x4 (used are not available anywhere). I really need to get a DD so I can get this project underway...and more garage space would be nice too .

I'll either have to fab a custom tank or have someone fab it for me due to the custom rear shock mounts and the fact I want 18-20 gallons.

Time & money: I need more of both :D.

Great , that prolly means another nice meal at lunch :)

That was a nice turn-on spot for lunch: Thanks to you and Alvaro! I'm going to call Sean today to see if he can take it next week...I want to get this over with .

I'll let you and A know...

My Gosh, what a whiner..... You'd think you rebuilt a cummins trans in your driveway with 20 degree nights, with your wife beating you to work 20 hour days so she could take her new toy to Tahoe. Just so you could get there and find out it doesn't have the best insulation, and sleep inside a 48 degree 5th wheel in November with only 2 blankets because you both thought the heater would work better than that...:flipoff2:

Glad to hear it's up and running. Ready to go try it out again???? Maybe we can find a trail the white whale will fit down this time.:bounce:

I know, makes you wonder how I've made it this far with swollen p**s flaps.:D

I think we (you and I) should stick to the wide open desert stuff.
