Awesome, thanks @TeCKis300. And from that picture it looks like the pole can still access the winch through the tailgate hole per normal, even though the bracket is 1" lower than before.

Yup! The tube guide for the winch is modified and trimmed, but it works fine in use. I don't even notice it as modified.

I just finished a 4,000 mile road trip, and I've realized that a 12.5 gal LRA tank should probably be my next mod. Since I'm more convinced now that I need one, I think it makes sense to install it before getting the new suspension.

See photo where you will need rubber to avoid metal-to-metal contact.

So my tank was hitting on the seam of the charcoal canister.

And the corners of the spare bumper bracket.

So I took a hammer and beat the top corner edges towards the center flattened them against the cross member as much as I could.

I also pulled the charcoal canister out and then did another test fit of the tank. No interference this time.

I will modify the charcoal canister mount to raise the lip edge closer to the body.

Did you end up moving the charcoal canister? I'd like to know how your project turned out and if you have eliminated any/all possible interference issues.

@orangefj45 Thanks for asking. On the small bracket side, I redrilled the hole, pushing it up, and also forward. I used allen head on one side to get closer to the bend on the side of the bracket.

I left a finger width between canister and the hard lines (AC?) above it.

On the other said I cut the hook tab and rebent it, effectively moving it about 1/2” and elongated the bolt holes into slots that it could be pushed forward.

I also hammered the bracket flat on both side where the new bolt holes(slots) would be.

In hindsight, I should have just drilled holes instead of making slots from the old ones. The bracket lined up on an angle, so I had file the slots. I also used a pan head screw for a little more clearance.

With those adjustments, my tank went in okay. Again, I had an early tank, manufactured 7/2018.

For Ignition power, I ended up running a fuse tap from the under hood fuse box. I HATE tapping into factory harness. I also like that it kept all the fuses in the same place instead of one randomly stashed under the dash and it uses factory style fuses.

AFAIK, there were only 6 “early” tanks. We then asked LRA to modify the tanks slightly; all the changes were made to create more clearance for the charcoal canister.
These mods look good but should only be undertaken for the first generation tanks.
Thanks for sharing and keep up the good work.
Happy to help.

One other detail. I wished I would have ordered a metric step drill off Amazon. The closest I could come locally was 3/4” so I had to file to fit. Not a big deal, but worth $5-10 to have a metric step.

Yup, they're dirt cheap. We ( long range america ) have discussed including one of these in the aux tank kits to make the installation of the aux tank Apexus gauge/switch easier.

Does anyone know what size rivnuts are needed for the spare tire crossmember? The instructions make a distinction between "later model" Land Cruiser having fewer relocation holes. My LC is a 2017 if that matters.

I will be DIY'ing a 12.5 gallon install in the next week.
