How much $$ and how difficult is it to replace a cracked dash on a '95 4Runner? I'm looking at one for sale and wondering how much trouble it would be. Ideas or suggestions?? Thanks...

There's a guy on eBay selling covers that apparently slide right over the dashpad, supposed to look stock. No experience, but seems like it might work.

But I think you're just better off finding another one.

x2 on replacement. I replaced the one on my 85 4Runner. It's not very difficult. I found the donor on ebay (and it was like new; I couldn't believe it).

They can be repaired but you would need a professional to do it (at least I would). Search "vinyl repair" locally.

Repair: $125-$250**

Replace: $250ish+Labor**

Either way it's an expense. The covers suck, as far as overall quality IMHO, and for the $100ish they cost, you'd be better off having it fixed, then recovered. That or a custom shaped dash would be a worthwhile investment.

**It'll crack also, as they're all from '95 or older vehicles, and Toyota is not making new stock parts anymore. I had mine crack in just 6 months of ownership, after buying it last year. The only reason it held up as long as it did is it was barely driven 7k a year, and always garaged.

It would be great if a company would make a replacement out of the new materials like GM and Porsche fans get.

84 and 85 4Runners are the same. They did change slightly at some point...either 86 or 87. You can still use anything up to an 89 but you might have to change the instrument cluster surround as well. You can tell by the length of the "tray" built into the top of the dash pad. The earlier ones go almost the full length and the later ones only go about half way. Here's a pic of a later one:

Excellent ...Thank you . The top of my dash is horrible along with the glare.
