Got it done this am, was much easier with the bolts loosened. Best 10 bucks I've spent in a while!
I honestly didn't want to, but what's that got to do with anything? I tried to loosen the bracket plate bolts, but they were rusted in pretty badly, so I went to get those loosened (the $10 I mentioned). Once the bracket came off, the shock came off fairly easily-just a pain to get those 4 bolts out.
After I paid to loosen those, it was like buttah. Did the rear faster than the front AFTER that. I'm confident I could cut my time in about 1/2 next time, but I'm not making plans to do this again any time soon.
Land Speeder, to address your interpretation: I absolutely had no intention of removing that plate if I could get one bolt off vs the two. But in the end I couldn't get any of them, so I settled on doing it the right way (dangit).
