The vicious couple went out on my (former) 97 after I sold it.

I believe the current owner pulled it himself and is going without one. Does that sound right? He's in Dixieland Cruisers.

Transfercase will operate just fine without. Is only used on icey roads. 91-92 did not have it 93-97 did and the 98-07 didn't have it either.

This is a first. I've had viscous couplers sieze up but this is the first one I've seen that's exploaded. It filled the case with its metal guts and killed the case. View attachment 1515262

For the most part. Does get used off-road by the customer from time to time. OME 2.5" with 315 KO2's.

Binding in tight turns is a sign that it's seized. I removed them from every 80 I've owned since 2003

I finally got around to investigating the cause of the fuel leak on Sherry's 80 buggy last night. When she got on steep uphill climbs she began to leak fuel around the filler neck. Now, I modified the metal pipe when I built it so I figured one of my welds was leaking it the pipe may have rubbed a hole in it. It wasn't easy to get to, had to cut some welds out and remove a filler panel but I did get it out finally. As I begin to inspect the metal pipe which shows no sign of failure I notice something odd. The short section of rubber hose connecting two segments of the small metal vent line appears to have a small circular hole or puncture in it. Wait... there's more than one! Holy cow... there are six such holes in this 8" long hose and several more being started from the outside going in. WTF kind of bug eats holes in rubber fuel line? I have never seen anything like this before. Weird.

I don't think so. The holes are all exactly the same size and shape and are all the way around the tube. I haven't welded anything back there for a couple years and never had a leak like this before. One of the holes had what looked like spider web silk in it but that may have come along after. I'm convinced it's some kind of bug but, again, never seen anything like it before. Maybe I haven't gotten over my Freifgtliner baby spider snow shower yet...

I doubt you run ethanol, but ive heard similar problems from that.
