What price point should I be looking for with rounds and magazines?

Gander Mtn has some that are .50 a pop

Mags are $20-35

5.56 or .223? Does it matter?

Are the cheap shells more corrosive? Dirtier? I'm not that guy that wants to strip and clean my rifle every time I shoot it.

5.56 on the ammo is my preference, especially since it is rated for 5.56. (If your lower had said .223, but not 5.56 then running 5.56 would be a no-no. running .223 in a 5.56 is ok, but the 5.56 round develops more pressure which isn't good for running in a .223) Good Bulk Ammo should run $0.36 - $0.45/rd, cheap stuff down closer to $0.25/rd. As far as good vs. cheap ammo, if the rifle will run it will determine if you can shoot it. Some gubs are more particular about what they will run. May require more cleanings, so that'd be your call.

I know buying local cost a little more, but $35 for a mag seems a bit excessive.

Just buy some pmags. You should be able to find them in bulk for $13ish or less each for 10.

I shoot mainly independence 5.56. Israeli made milspec 55 gr ball. Last 500 I bought as about $.33 a round shipped.

Can I get an aim point mount to go on the carry handle?

I like the looks of the carry handle on an AR

I've never seen one that mounts to a carry handle. An Aimpoint that is.

I'd say that there's a decent chance you'll run out of elevation before you can zero that dpms with that carry handle rear sight. The gas block front will lack the height of an f marked front sight post.

I like the aimpoints. I have a t1. Would own a pro or carbine optics without hesitation. Depends on what you want to spend.

If you want a budget reddot, look at the vortex strike Fire II or the primary arms red dot offerings. I've owned both on range toys, still have the primary arms one on my ar 22 sbr.

This is on it. It's fine. The holographic sights are what are pimp.

I'm not sure what I need here but I need a place to mount the front of the sling.

I pulled off the front sight so I have this little accessory bar available to mount it

No experience with either, but I think these or something similar is what your looking for.

The second one uses one of there quick connects

@wngrog , looks good but I bet/know your cheek weld is killer. You need to get a little riser underneath the red-dot to get it closer to natural eye level. It should really make shooting more comfortable.

Yes. That is what I need. This thing is entirely too low.

Got and suggestions? I want one before I sight it in. It's shooting about 12" high at 40 yards as is.

you'd be better off just buying a new optic... be it one of the budget ones I mentioned above, or an Aimpoint as you mentioned above. They will all (most likely) come with the appropriate riser.

as a side note, i believe all the Aimpoints are reflex sights. You'd have to go with the Eotech style to get a true holographic sight.

I wasn't going to say anything, but yeah, TCB is right. Ditch the budget optic for a Strikefire or Primary Arms Micro. I have the PA, and I love it. And yes, you will need a riser. Both are available with budget risers, but I went ahead and bought the Larue riser for mine. $$$ but worth it.

Or you can opt for a real nice optic and get an Aimpoint T1 or EoTech

I bought the LT660HK for my PA Micro, though for a true cowitness, you would be better off with the LT660
