Anybody seen one of these tailgates?
OEM? Are they available?
Saw this while back on mud
Thanks

Gate may be a Bande. @lcwizard would chime in to say that bumper is a fast ticket to a ticket in the US.

Bumper is too high?

Not for rear departure. If you want a tailgate to lay flat anything sticking out it would hit.

While I haven't seen one of these in person been told they are not has heavy as the FJ40 tailgate.

What's with the bullet lens on the corner reflector?

I had a Bandeirante tailgate some years back that I bought new from Jonathan Ward when they were still available in Brazil. It was well-built and as heavy if not heavier than a stock LC tailgate. Before I got around to installing it, though, I got the bug to build a tailgate from two LC barn doors and sold the Bandeirante tailgate to another Mud member.

I think what Mark is saying is that bumper is WOEFULLY inadequate to provide crash protection like the factory rear bumper was. Look at that thing, the lowermost portion looks to be 1" tubing, silly

I'm thinking it is because of the lights being partially blocked by cross bar.
It would not pass D.M.V. inspection here in Delaware.
It it also illegal to partially block or block any O.E.M. light here.

I was just going bu what someone I know who had one said. Believe like you he sold it before he used it. I do find it hard to believe the Bandi tailgate could had the strength of the factory tailgate that is really boxed construction around the edges and in the center. While the they look cool if you run a spare on the back you cover at least part of the Toyota. Can see the one pictured above the bumper is designed for a spare tire carrier. The other options for a spare is on the hood like a Land Rover, on the side like the FJ25 and early CJ or mounted on top of a roll cage. The place that makes the most sense is on the back. Then your dealing with a license plate. Could always mount it like the FJ25, on the left corner but off road it doesn't fair very well. While these are cool tailgates for the reason above I'll stick with the factory tailgates.

we have a winner! Honestly, to give credit where it is due , it wasn't on my radar screen until Dave pointed it out to me.

In tweet form, cool but not practical.

Thanks for all the info guys. I would like one of these, even damaged. But realize there is like zero chance.

To be honest these remind me of the old Willys tailgates. Probably another reason while I'll stick with the classic FJ40 tailgate design, doesn't look like anything from a jeep.

Definitely looks oldtime.
Stamped tailgates go back even to model A

You probably feel the same way about the split windshield,eh?

Had a chance to buy one of those years ago when a few from Pakistan made their way here. Figured if I wanted to go old school military look it would be cool. Our FJ40 soft top bows already had the military look. In the end dealing with seals and wipers weren't worth the hassle. Don't believe these were ever offered to general market on the FJ40.
