Saw this while browsing ebay...emailed the seller about dimensions but he never got back to me. which is fine, don't really want to spend that much on an old radio anyways, even tho it is 24volts...

RADIOMOBILE 24V RADIO 1171 CONVERTED FOR IPOD BRAND NEW | eBay

However this leads me to a question for you electronical gizmo kinda fellers. If an ipod input can be added to that radio, it can probably be added to other old school radios.

What I want, is just an old push button radio ( no memory, and holds stations)that fits the stock radio hole, but if it had an aux input....well, that'd be better.

Anyone messed with it, or know of a how to site ( searched, didn't find anything terribly useful.)

just a lot of homey's describing the intricacies of purchasing an rca cable, whereas this is very much a crack it open and solder something kinda deal.

Looks like they've just tapped into it with an audio cord. Daniel would be able to whip one up on any device you want for a very reasonable price. Let me know.

There will be the tuner, preamp, and power amp circuits inside. Chances are, these may be on separate boards or at least easy to spot. The volume control will be in the preamp so you need to tap in between that and the tuner. But your iPod level would be way too high for the preamp, so you could either turn your iPod volume way down or add resistors.

One thing to consider is that a lot of those old push button radios are AM only, so everything inside would be mono...

Yeah, I found a few sites where people soldered onto the board inside radios , and then threaded the cord out the back. just not a lot of detail on where exactly one must make the connections... in general terms, ie between which components.
I have to find a decent radio first tho, but I may pick your buddy's brain, or get him to do it when I get there...

Yeah, not too worried about mono, it's for a 40 series, so not the best acoustics anyways.

I pretty much listen to AM sports radio most of the time, ( unless they're talking baseball, cuz that's just gay.)

but an alternative would be cool, as it's not going to cost much to set up.

Modern head units don't fit the 42 dash, and because of the station memory, they suck ass on a 24v truck, for many many many reasons.

Well when you get the radio you want, I'd be happy to take a look inside and tell you where to solder your cable.

I've got an AM/FM push button radio... It works... :D

If you don't mind it saying "Datsun" in fine print on the display.

From an 83 Nissan sentra.

Don't know. It's still in the dash. It appears narrower than the newer units. It has got round knobs and mounts on their shafts I believe... I'll have to have a closer look.

Looks similar to this random one I found a pic of...

The Radio is made by Clarion. It measures: 6 1/4"x 1 7/8" x 3 1/4"(deep) Roughly. It appears to have mounting holes on either side of the radio 1/2" up (from bottom) and 3/4" back (from front).

cool. sounds like it'd fit, or near enough.

trade ya something small worthless and cruiser related for it? :grinpimp:

might have those studs and cone washers you're after...( or at least a large portion of them)

Sounds good. There is even a basic wiring diagram on the outside, and since the car is being scrapped, you are welcome to the plug.:D

seams like the easiest way would be to tap into the fm radio antenna for a non electronics person... there are pretty cheap kits (30 or so) that due this for ipods/other non apple products availible from best buy... they just plug into where the antenna goes... then you plug the antenna into them... basicly fm modulates the signal and it gets 100 % radio reception all the time.....

This one has got a 5 pin din plug to go to a "deck".
