I’ve had a v8 in mine for almost 30 years love it
Makes these rigs so much more fun drive and takes away that old slow tractor feel but it has to be done right or you will just have one big headache after another.

It's my understanding, the LS is considerably more efficient than the SBC. A fuel injected SBC only get marginally better gas mileage than a properly setup carb'd sbc. On a sbc, FI will allow for better cold starts, adjust for elevation and have a more responsive throttle.

If your considering swaps for fuel mileage be sure to calculate the expense of the swap and how long it will take to recover the money spent.
It might be cheaper to buy a beater car that get 30mpg's.

I love my V8 40's.

I'm in the process of an LS swap right now, and due to having surgery on both hips 40 years ago and 4 low back surgeries my wife talked me into going with an automatic transmission so I can enjoy driving it more and not be clutching & shifting, especially in stop and go traffic, which might become painful. Here in Florida I was able to get a good Gen 3 LS for $800 with everything on it including A/C (and they flashed the ECU using my differentials ratio, tire size and so on), and the 4L60E automatic overdrive transmission for $700, and a custom made wire harness for $200. Hopefully that gives you an idea of costs compared to doing a 350 and then fuel injecting it. You may be able to find them cheaper in your area. Oh, and then there is the cost of the motor mounts and Advanced Adapter to connect the transmission to the transfer case, and you would want to run a split transfer case instead of the original or I'm told the transfer case would whine so bad it would drive you nuts.

Cruisermatt owns and operates a shop near Orlando that works on Land Cruisers and when I was over there he said the best driving & riding FJ40 they have ever done was one they did an LS swap on. He said it felt and drove like a modern vehicle, and that it also takes 300 pounds off the nose because the LS setup weighs so much less.

How’s your build going @FloridaLife? Are you up and running or still assembling parts?
Pics?

Man, instead of being done, mine went backwards! I talk about it and have photos in my thread New to the FJ40 Scene. It turns out that everything that I had done locally has to be redone because the local idiots just covered over rust holes instead of cutting it out and using the replacement panels I had purchased (like the rear bottom corners). And, since I was born and raised in Texas I knew that vehicles in Texas and Oklahoma are almost always solid and rust free. But, it turns out this 40 obviously lived somewhere else where they salt the roads in the winter and it had a TON or rot, even replacing the back foot or two of the frame and braces, both the rear sills on either side that the barn doors attach to, both the door sills, the driver's side floor is going to have to be replaced because someone did it before but used thin flimsy metal, and more. If you hear a large sucking sound, that's my FJ40 sucking money out of my bank account! But, when he is done, it will be done right, and solid as a tank! I'm about to post some more pics in my thread.
