It looks like the cross bars were modified with a bend before being rewelded to the basket?

This particular version was meant to be bolted directly to the roof, think it came like that. But could be wrong..

ConFerr made racks in that configuration for use on tradesman/panel vans, where they were bolted directly to a curved roof. The rack I bought for my K5 Blazer 42 years ago was originally from a van. I paid a welder to cut out the straps and weld in two crossbars .
