Good point. His reply will likely be "hey, I was ONLY going 80!"

while some may disagree....I trashed my "ST" tires and run e rated tire like off a 3/4 ton pickup on my trailer. Had to many issues with the ST stuff. I guess this trip out to UT will really see how the e rated LT tires hold up on trailer duty, so far on 2-4 hour trips they have been fine.

Will be curious to see how that works out. I'm now on my 2nd or 3rd new ST this year and kinda tired of buying tires.

I run BFG Commercial E-range 16's on my 24' aluminum hauler, and it's regularly close to it's 10k rated max. Zero flats. One tire with odd wear, but had a bearing issue. Carry two spares, but haven't needed. I "may" have in the 20k range on those tires...since last fall...

<--fan of E range on a trailer.

Want tires to last? Check temps and pressure EVERY stop. A "bad" tire will be hotter and inflate at a greater rate. I've done extensive checks with trailer tire temps/alignment/pressures/etc and it's the "odd" one that has the greatest chance of blowing. Heat IS the enemy.

No heat, just crappy chinese quality.
I had just started out for the day less than 5 miles from my campsite.

Yup!

Got the crawler loaded onto the trailer last night and the white truck loaded up with gear. Just gotta throw some stuff in the semi and load the white truck on the trailer (big picture anyway). I hope to make it out of WA before sunrise Saturday. If my motivation is enough, which I suspect it will be, I may even make it through OR and into ID on my first leg tonight (only 8-9hrs).

can't believe you would even question the motivation to get moving. I guess the white truck is the "run around town" and parts rig?

The question is not "if" I'm motivated, it is whether or not the motivation outweighs the normal "get tired after two hours of driving" scenario. Last time I went to Moab I was excited enough to drive for 24 hours with only two 30 minute naps.

Yes, the white truck is my DD and it is half for a run-around vehicle and half for a way to transport stuff since there's no way to easily tie down stuff on the trailer and it's not easy to get all the bigger and dirtier parts and tools into the cab of the semi.

Steve you need a coffin like Teds, load 600 lbs of spare parts in it then try to pick it and move it to my trailer.
I have everything loader but truck cooler with drinks and food for trip, have a few odds and ends to do around house. Jason should be here around 7:30 in the morning will need to load his gear, do last check of Toyota tires and check straps one more time and we will be out of here. See you all in Moab.

The most critical issue I have found is tire pressure, low pressure will result in high tire temp. Two of the issues I have had are poor quality valve stems, some of the ones sold for cars are not rate for 80 psi trailer tires and the biggest issue is crappy Chinese rims. I have had 3 that the welds developed cracks and tires lost air pressure and then self destructed. Now I only use Americam made rims, the only ones I have found are Carlisle. Summit sells them. The best tire I have found is Goodyear G-614 a bit pricey but when you start adding up the number of $120 tires you have gone through might be worth it.

Oh come on now, that thing didn't weigh more than 80-90 lbs tops. I just faked the part where I struggled to move it. :moon:

I did end up borrowing a truck bed box from a buddy and redneck'd it onto the semi behind the cab. It worked out great for tossing a lot of the hard parts like springs, axle shafts and extra steel. The white truck has the coolers, extra tools, trailer tires, extra fluids and boxes of small parts. It is also a huge asset to have a highway-worthy vehicle in case of major issues with the tow rig or trailer.

:cheers:Only 3 years in the making and FINALLY the departures are about to officially kick off. Let the games begin!

Looking forward to lots of pics and videos. Safe travels guys, have a good time.

I'm about half the way there (now)....about to sleep in Clinton OK. I agree on the trailer biz about temps and air pressure and crappy st quality tires and crappy valve stem quality. I bought a whole pack of those metal valve stems that basically bolt to the wheel. Never had one fail so far.

Im sure Jason knows the roads well...my observation is that I40 is crap for a about 30miles on the west side of Memphis (road conditions and constructions) cops everywhere in the same 30 mile stretch. some crappy areas and road construction between OKC and Ark...seems to be better that I'm on the other side of OKC. Super nice weather so far.

some road contruction in OK, seems roads are better now....since I"m past OKC technically.

the other thing I learned to hate on the ST tire is the speed limitation... I run 70-75 on the hwy...when I can and u not suppose to push an st tire past 65mph.

I'm somewhere around the 750 mark in miles on this trip and I've been running from 65-75 the entire way. So far the E rated LT tires are my favs... no issues...i did a walk around when I parked and everything looks ok.

East bound and down, loaded up and truckin!
