Thanks to Jay and Eric at Yotamasters, I, again, have a quiet truck! Quiet in the office today so called and they said come on out, it's quiet here too this afternoon. Thanks Dave for the referral! It may be 37 miles from home, but certainly was worth the drive.

I was able to replicate the 'clunk' on Eric's sofisticated test track...a speed bump in front of his shop! :p :D We had a good laugh about the fact that we were able to replicate it so easily as opposed to the mystery sound mechanics never hear that drive us to

Eric started looking and then Jay joined us. Spent some time looking at the seating of the coil and the steering linkage then Jay noticed a little rust around one of the bolts on what he referred to as the radius (radial) arm and the FSM in the suspension and axle - front suspension section on the Leading Arm components refers to as the  leading arm. The arm with the castor bushings regardless of what you call it. :hillbilly:

Anyway the rear bolt on the PS was loose! He cinched that sucker down and made sure all the others were tight and we put the truck back on the test track. NO CLUNK!!! :bounce::bounce2::bounce: Nothing all the way home either!

I'll be out with the truck all weekend so we'll give it the weekend to say it's gone for sure, but it certainly appears so.

For Boyd - the front two bolts on the leading arm at the axle torque to 127 ft/lbs and the rearmost bolt to 130 ft/lbs. It's a 22mm bolt per Jay

I didn't test those this past weekend because I don't have anything that large in my socket set. Not enough of a :wrench::banana: to have thought of a simple crecent wrench that Jay said would have done in a pinch. That's why he's a mechanic and me an accountant! :flipoff2:

Stopped by Sears since someone posted on the board about a father's day sale. They don't have a 6pt 22mm socket at the Laguna Hills store. Not going to waste my money on a 12pt. I'll find one and torque all six of those bolts to spec soon!

Knock on Wood...but God I'm relieved that's all it was!

Agreed - we need a better description, etc of WTF a woo woo is!

You don't know how relieved I am and still on pins and needles expecting that horrifying clunk hitting the brakes hard, etc. It's going to take awhile for my OCD to let that fear and apprehension subside.

Told you it was the arm bolt!!!!!!

i dont really have time per say, but have you checked the control arms and their bushings? I've had the same come loose before and thought i had an axle problem, but just come to find out it was just the control arm bolt that was lose.

?

nice work. after running bronco peak and sidewinder on june 6 i started getting the same clunk. after reading this post i got down under the truck with a ratchet to check the bolts and SURE ENOUGH.....THE BOLTS WERE LOOSE. tightened it down and the clunk went way. cheers!!:beer::beer::beer::beer::beer:

Very happy to hear you finally solved this problem. Good to know you were never in any type of danger and you got a lot of other PM work done to boot.

Yep - kind of the way I look at the calipers and bushings as well - good preventative maintenance after 15 years of ownership. Hopefully it'll solve Boyd's clunk as well and glad it helped cruiserruf too. Almost went with the Slee bling on the relay and tie rod...almost! Just need to get under there and check the torque on those six bolts when I get the 22mm socket. Jay tightened them down pretty well and used a 7/8, which I think I do have.
