We used a couple Baofeng's and some Canadian Tire FRS radios on the run yesterday. Worked out well. I think I'd just recommend people buy one or the other. As long as the radios are FRS/GMRS capable. Easiest way to go really.

You're technically not supposed to, but yes it can be done. The Baofengs also have a Narrow band setting that (hypothetically, if you were to do it) should be used.

On the last Whipsaw run I did a couple of years ago, the logging trucks were MF'ing our small group for not having radios and calling our km markers.
I was monitoring them on my ham radio so knew where THEY were, but they were not pleased about us. It was not a comfortable situation.
Not sure the answer other than doing what you're not "technically" supposed to. I'm open to suggestions though.
Is this ham radio licensing course you are talking about?
