CLC HAM radio net?

Tue. Dec. 3rd.

I thought it was the mount that broke and not the antenna. Anyhow, glad you got it fixed up.

Remember, I have asked Don with MARC/ARES/SAR, to discuss HAM radio and 4x4 volunteer opportunities this Tue. night the 3rd.

I hope some of you can make it.

Remember, the main motivation for this monthly on air meeting is to stay familiar with your radios and the associated protocols that come with your FCC license.

The antenna broke down by the base, the base is fine.

Looking forward to it. Hope to hear from a lot of CLC HAM's Tuesday night.

Another good CLC net, thanks Leon. I'm glad I finally figured out the radio!

Some really interesting Search & Rescue info from Don. Looking forward to having him come to a meeting early 2014. Never really though I would have much interest in amateur radio beyond what we use it for on club runs (glorified CB :D), but I think setting up remote repeaters on search & rescue assignments sounds pretty cool. Might have to start getting serious about HAM.

Yes, we are on for tomorrow night.

I would rather see you in that than hear you in that...

...MARC repeater system at 8:00 pm or immediately after the MARC Net if they run over...

....For those with 2m only use frequency 145.500 Mhz. and I will have a cross band repeat set up to the MARC repeater in the Springs...

A little reminder (for myself, if for no one else). "See" you guys @ 8:00.

Andrew, that will be channel 18 on the Baofeng.

Just a heads up, I will have the small 1/4 wave set up on the x-band repeat inside the garage so if anyone using that may need bit more power if you have trouble getting in.

Hey guys,

Sorry I doubled there a few times at the end. I was trying to say:

1) The come-along was get, but Luke had mentioned that my HF version was about to die. You might want to buy a beefier version. ???

2) I've seen the "Sand Ladders" as Eric called them for anywhere between 150 and 300 dollars. I'll look to see if I can find some examples of them being used for snow recovery.

3) Luke's professional "Come-Along" demonstration might go well with the "Getting Unstuck" video. Just a thought. ???

Good Net Tonight!!! Look forward to seeing you guys in a couple weeks.

Thanks, Leon. I "trimmed" the file you sent me to fit into the UV-5R, so it's channel 17 now. I removed some repeaters from areas where I don't think i'm likely to go. I also removed the upper 2m and 70cm simplex stations, knowing that I could do the math and punch in the frequency, if I need them. I ended up adding the NOAA stations, for a total of 127 to fill the memory.

I listened to the end of the MARC net and all of the CLC net. I was able to hear everyone clearly from my living room.

I was able to understand you behind a lot of static with the 1/4 wave. I think you said that you switched to 5/8? wave, and you were clear after that on my end.

I heard you fine earlier - what changed near the end - we couldn't hear you at all. Just made out a few words here and there.

Found this thread on sand ladders - not many people had much good to say about them. There was alot of love for the pull-pal winch anchor, though that's not all that useful in the terrain we see.

Also had high marks for those air bag jacks that you inflate with the exhaust. I could see that possibly being useful in the snow.

I really think it was just me doubling. I couldn't get a word in edgewise with those Chatty-Kathie's gabbing away. HAM etiquette dictates that there should be some pauses here in there in the conversation, but I guess those guys play by their own rules. ;)

I dunno - we paused and heard extended transmissions, but they were very quiet and unintelligible. Almost like it was some remote station interfering. And we never heard from you again, so I'm thinking now that it was you.

Hmmmm.... didn't change a thing. ????

That is a valid point regarding wait times. Count one, one thousand or maybe a tad longer on repeaters. This is dual purpose, one to allow for a break and second, to allow the repeaters to key up. I am still somewhat of a newbie myself and can talk too quickly.

However, during any Net, the proper way to interject during a discussion is to say your call sign or at least the suffix, in your case "TEQ". I don't know if you heard Don use that and Eric did a form of that as well when he checked in late. Then Net control will either tell you to go ahead "TEQ" or he may tell you to stand by. For example, after you have broken you can then ask to talk to someone directly, say Eric. Net control then tells you to go ahead with Eric. Once you two are done you clear/end with your call signs and say returning to Net control. While we are not quite as formal as the MARC net there is still some facilitation by Net control. I think this is a good idea so people get experience on Nets. What we do on simplex is completly informal but using your call suffix is the best way to break into an existing conversation and actually it was one of the test questions ;) . On the test they say to use the full call but you can reserve the full call for folks you do not know.

Remember to always clear with your call sign when you are done with a conversation. By doing so that does not mean that you cannot come back into a conversation later in the Net, just means you are done for now. If you forget you may hear me ask for you to clear with your call sign. At which time you could reply "done for now K0TEQ" or "gone for the evening K0TEQ". The important thing is clearing with the call sign.

Listening in on any Net would be good to learn the etiquette by listening. Good idea in general to maintain proper amateur practice but especially true for any considering emergency comm. Hope this helps, good turnout last night.

This was my experience as well.

Andrew, sounds like you are getting the hang of things and thanks for the signal report. Maybe we will hear you in March!
