Rain = give the GX and trailer a bath after camping :)

@Rednexus since seeing your post over the weekend about parking your trailer.. I realized I never posted pics of how we get ours done.

Back in July I had to cut the overhang of my shed roof back 16" just to SQUEEZE the trailer between the house and shed

And even with that.. its a TIGHT fit. 2 or so inches on either side going through the gate opening, and of course having to miss hitting the house AC condenser lol

We bought a parkit360 to assist in getting it back here.. no chance I was going to thread that needle lol

whats also nice about it, I can pull it in tongue first so its even more secure so someone cant just cut the lock off and drive away with it.

But to make things even easier, a few weeks ago I made a large sliding gate to widen the opening

I also pushed it out towards the street an additional 12 or so ft. So I can get the trailer back there nose or ass first AND there is till enough room in the front yard to park the trailer as well.

Last week we had some excavation done to extend our cement retaining wall and extend the parking pad to gain more room as well. They're hoping to pour this week depending on weather.

I did 31ft of trenching over the weekend to extend the width of the driveway too. 13.5" wide and 4" deep

Also talked to a friend who runs his own HVAC company about moving the AC condenser further back on the house to make even more room.

That is TIGHT! Congrats for getting it to fit! I think you have young(er) kids as well? Honestly after having a camper for almost ~4 years, we could never go back to not having one. This weekend in cell-service-less campground was great for our family, and our kids love it (as well as the ability to roam and make weekend friends with other kids). There are just too many distractions at home - camping is the best quality time we have together.

Had I known we were going to buy a trailer 5 years in the future, I would have done things a bit different when I built the shed and home office lol!

Yup, our youngest turned 2 this last weekend and our oldest will be 5.5 later this month! Our oldest loves meeting new kids on the camp trips! Unplugging is really nice!

Well im about 6 weeks shy of owning the GX for 2 years!

Ever since ive owned it, the automatic wiper function has been pretty lame (one click down on the stalk).
It would either
-not work at all
-do a partial wipe then stop

so I would always just do two clicks down and use them like that. Well we've had a decent amount of rain of the last few days and drove the GX. It was bugging me enough to do some searching. So I found you can just unplug the sensor on the windshield and it should then act like an intermittent wiper. So I did that last night after I put the boys down (wife is working a per diem job in SoCal for a week - im surviving lolol).

Of course.. the rain stops overnight hahahaha.

I will have to try this! Personally I can’t stand the auto wiper feature. It’s either too slow or on fast. I would rather have normal wipers.
Same same!
From everything I read, it seemed like a close 50/50 where some loved the function and worked proper, or it didnt work.

I know I could try cleaning the sensor that is up there, seemed like a pretty common/easy fix. But my way literally took less than 1 min popping the plastic cover off and unplugging the wire there.

I've found my automagic wipers to work decently and other times they'd wipe for no apparent reason. This being the fanciest vehicle I've ever owned, I like the idea of those wipers. I need to look into what is involved in cleaning that sensor and if the behavior I've observed persists, I guess I'll begrudgingly "downgrade" them to standard wipers.

Welp, made everything work hah.

I bought these from amazon:
New plug for the trailer harness - Amazon.com: Oyviny Replacement USCAR to 7 Way RV Blade Trailer Connector for Chevy, Ford, GMC and Nissan, Silverado Trailer Plug, Factory Tow Package and USCAR Socket Required : Automotive - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B653NH2K?psc=1&linkCode=sl1&tag=thibben-20&linkId=946f4ab6042f026f9305d9c7c52e3e4b&language=en_US&ref_=as_li_ss_tl
Small harness that I used to splice into the OEM harness - Amazon.com: Oyviny Replacement USCAR 7 Pin Trailer Connector Wiring Harness OEM Style for Ford/GM/Chevy/Dodge Ram F150 Trailer Plug Socket Pigtail 12-16 AWG Pure Copper with Flex Tubing 16-Inch : Automotive - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08N5VC7V3?psc=1&linkCode=sl1&tag=thibben-20&linkId=cfb87a70e73c4ecb273144f90670167d&language=en_US&ref_=as_li_ss_tl

First I took the small harness (from the 2nd link) and unpinned all the wires from the connector, then re-pinned them so the colors matched the orientation from the factory plug. Just made things easier when soldering - not having to think "oh yellow goes to red now" type thing.. so just red to red ect.

I cut the OEM trailer plug off the other two smaller plugs that tie into the car's harness

Now simply just matched color to color and soldered them all together

Video of my test to make sure everything was good to go before heating up the shrink wrap, all was good!

Finished the shrink wrap

The wrapped everything with some electrical tape

I just did this and it didn’t work! Arghhh

How come you swapped out the OEM 7-pin?
I did mine to get the DD light in the hitch when not towing.

EDIT: just saw your build thread. Do you know if the 7/4 pin combo thing works or maybe got a bunk one?

The 4-pin plug on the 7/4 combo unit is working fine now. My new pair of 15” led brake/tail lights works well now.

I had to rewire it since GX470 wire colors didn’t match the Mecmo trailer 7/4 combo unit.

Cement truck was late Friday. Guys where here till 10pm finishing!
As everything stands right now - hoping to start the new fence extension today.

will install a man gate to the left there. So I dont always need to slide the main gate open if I dont need to.

Pulled the rest of the forms Monday. Had to backfill behind the wall a bit too. Then got the frame started. Yesterday finished the frame and got all the slats up.

I reused some old slats from another neighbor, these match the same style as what our next door neighbor already have on their front gate.
1761743903201.webp

Then I put new ones on our side to match the sliding gate
1761743954348.webp

1761743981221.webp

Ive also still got a couple dozen used wider slats left over from the double swing gate. Ill reuse those to start doubling up moving back towards the shed. More privacy not seeing through the fence and keeps it a bit quieter too.

Yesterday afternoon I started with the post install for the swing gate. The retaining wall has a slight bow to it, so I didnt really want to bolt a pressure treated 4x4 to it with gaps. I made sure the post was plumb, then traced the curve of the wall onto the post.
1762272070431.webp

Cut the curve out, put butyl tape on the back to make the post last longer. Installed 3 cement anchors into the wall.
1762272116882.webp

Bolted on. Feels suuuuuuuper sturdy, doesnt budge at all.
1762272156027.webp

Going to modify the old gate frame to fit this space. Waiting on a couple parts to arrive today to continue on.

Man gate is in.
1762957981815.webp

Lock can use:
-an app
-fingerprint
-pin code
-key
-fob to open
and it is IP65 rated. First time installing a doorknob from scratch (drilling all the holes out).

I was finally able to push the trailer back into its normal "resting place". Got an extra 15.5 ft of space back lol. Can see where the tongue jack had been sitting for weeks.
1762958148905.webp

Installed a new security cam at the end of my shed since the other one (on the house) is being blocked by the trailer. So ive got eyes on the trailer door and the new gate.
1762958227411.webp

Think the only thing left to do for this project is trim down the black metal post. Finish the last few concrete anchors to hold the sliding gate v-track down al the way.
