I have a 86 4-Runner. Where and how do I check for Codes? My truck is missing on the lower end and tends to smooth out on top end. I need to figure out the problem. I've got a rebuilt motor with probably less than 10K miles.

Thanks
Gman

if you have the diagnostic box, its beside the fuse panel labeled IIRC, Diagnosis.

If its not there, there are two round plugs not connected to anything on the driver side fender. Check the FSM (DL it for free check the FAQ) but I think its the bigger of the two.

Another pair of pics. The connector you want has the arrow. The tool you can use is the second pic.

This brings up a good point. When did they switch from the round connector on the drivers side to the check connector/diagnostic box on the pass side?

haha!

My Jan of 85, IFS, RTE 4Runner has has the box.

The 86 RTE truck I have has it on the fender....
