Putting together the dual cases tomorrow and would like to get the motor in Sunday. If anyone has a engine hoist in the southern wake county area let me know before I try and man handle the 4 cylinder into the truck lol

I have one you are welcome to borrow over the weekend...but I not in southern wake county :p. Not far though.

Come grab mine. I don’t have my truck or I would drop it off.

Well, stressful day it was, drilled through the frame for the IFS steering box, most nerve racking thing I've done so far. got it welded in and just need to grind and paint but can do that at another time, and then this evening i tore apart the transfer case and converted it to top shift and got it back together and ready to put on the adapter. Tomorrow i will get an early start and put the other crawl box into a top shift case and put it together and dual cases will be complete, maybe... then HOPEFULLY drop in the motor tomorrow evening. key word, hopefully....

Long day it was, DUAL CASES ARE COMPLETE!!! ran into a few hiccups though, instructions werent clear on things and had to figure it out on our own, and the bearing puller wasn't long enough for the input shaft so the chopsaw fixed that one. i put it in low low and 4wd and it seems like it has more compression then my motor lol. but now to the engine it is!

Yeah the one i have is a good motor, but if you wanna buy that ill be glad to install it:)

Finally in after 7 attempts and 2 different motor mounts, GM transmission mounts need some modifications before i can put them in so i put the factory ones in for now.

Why GM motor mounts?

So with the dual cases the force that comes from them and the type of mount that i'm using as the cross-member just bolts to the back of the t-case ( 10 Degree Clocked Crossmember and Skidplate Combo ), and with factory motor mounts and the force given to them from the gearing and such they go bad quickly and when they go the casing on the t-case breaks into two, So essentially factory motor mounts aren't strong enough for it and these mounts with make up for it and is able to handle the pressure.

What motor mounts? Ever heard of using GM trans mount? - Pirate4x4.Com : 4x4 and Off-Road Forum

Gotcha. That's the transmission (and now also t-case) mount I use. Be aware, those are not bomb-proof, and will fail also. There's a safety mechanism built in so it won't fly apart too quickly. Still, I'd recommend chaining the engine down as well as using that mount.

FWIW, there's a rubber version of that same mount that's $6 at NAPA. Use these and chain the engine down just in case of failure; https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/BK_6201024

The factory mount are molded rubber and they commonly come apart. The poly "bomb proof" mounts transfer too much engine viberation ( teeth jarring) the GM trans mount is a balance. The mounting plates are interlocking so in the event of a failure the is very little movement.

The transmission/transfer cross member isolators are harder then the factory rubber ( engine mount and transmission mount) due to this we needed something close that would work together. Seems like the right solution to me.

Just to make sure you've got the whole picture @fourtrax ;

The "GM mount" you're referring to, that's described in the pirate thread garret linked, is an energy suspension polyurethane mount. I'm referring to the one in the pictures in that thread, and the part numbers listed. They come in a bunch of variants, black, red, chrome, gold, etc. They have an interlocking feature, and are what I have run in moonshine for the past 5 years.

They are not bomb proof. I've had one come apart and let my transmission slide around on my crossmember enough to contact the body. I've gone through two in the past 5 years, both with the same failure. The one I linked to above, the NAPA part number, is hard vulcanized rubber, in the same configuration as the "GM mount" listed above. You'd need to chain it, like the factory mount.

Thanks for the clarity.

Not if this transmission won’t go in

Motor is securely in with the motor mounts, got the transmission in and on ratchet straps and rolled it back in the garage. *Transfer case installment mode activated* gonna get it in hopefully only having to put it in once.

Thats a crazy enough setup to like.

Keep digging..... but take it easy on taking credit for all the mods on your sisters bad ass truck in 80’s tech ;)

You messed it up but i fixed it for you:)

Well tonight wasn't to pleasing of a night, as soon as i got the transfer case in i went to go and put the motor at top dead center and put it together and it was gonna be allll good, well that wasnt the plan, out came the transmission again and cause the spacer plate on the block and between the transmission the bolts holding it in had to big of a shoulder and wouldnt turn over the motor, but after a couple hours all is good now
